my rear exhaust system is hanging down and about to fall off!! i knew it was deteriating but tried to ignore it.

Is replacing it a job i can do myself as its only the back section that needs replaced or is it another trip to the garage for the terrano???

the brackets from car to exaust are different to most cars they bolt on not just rubber hangers bet your bottom dollar its knackered so have good look before you atempt it get them ordered in ready!

Quite an easy job and you don't even need to jack the vehicle up. There are 2 M10 nuts and bolts that are difficult to undo... worst case use angle grinder or nut splitter and replace them. You will also need a gasket between the sections, exhaust supplier have these for £1-£2 you also need a small amount of exhaust sealant paste.
Sometimes the bolt on the exhaust hanger is difficult to remove. You can always undo the top and work on it on the bench.
Good luck, certainly the easiest exhaust I have ever changed. The middle section is just as easy, BUT when I needed a new front pipe I went to Kwik Fit.... there could have been problems with the manifold..
hope this helps,
best regards, Rustic

cheers for the quick replies. any idea who the best (cheapest) supplier is for these parts and exhaust.

Same thing happened to mine, bracket on rear hanger rusted away  wired it up till I was ready to change it.

When I checked the rest of the exhaust I found that the pipe exit the silencer just in front of the axle was ready to snap off, its where all the water etc collects (low point)

its now completely off and will have to go to the garage on monday as i cant wait for the internet parts!!

another bill........

There were some exhaust sections for sale on ebay at the beginning of this week for the Terrano ll .... you may want to check them out. I had a new front section put on my Mistral because the flexi - section had started blowing in December. KwikFit fitted it for £106:00 with a 2 year guarantee.

it will still drive ok, no power loss but loads of noise  My front pipe snapped at the turbo when the wife was picking me up, I could hear her coming from miles away, but car drove fine, could even hear the turbo whistling

Jace is right they have a funny hanger that is moe like an engine or gear box mouniting they cost about £12 and are dealer only i beleive.

Phoned round quite a few exhausts places: mcconichies, budget exhausts, the robbing so and so that call themselves quik fit and another few local places that i cant remember. All the places were having trouble sourcing the part of the exhaust. some could get it, some couldnt supply it, a lot of places the part wasnt even registering on their computer. Got quoted £90 - £210!!!!!

Im still driving it, it doesnt actually sound much louder, maybe it would be if i turned the stereo down though!!!
Its going into my usual garage tomorrow, they are going to order the part in for me!!

Would have liked to do it myself but with my health the way it is it would probably be the summer before i could do it!!!

I know what you mean about the difference in prices

I got mine from local cheap exhaust place and it cost £90 odd from frontpipe back fitted.
I fitted new front pipe myself as I was scared that they would snap studs on turbo. Guess what front pipe snapped at weld on flange to turbo just inside warranty period. Paid to get it fitted 2nd time as it was a pain 1st time round. Guy who did it charged me £30, when I went back he said if he new how difficult a job it was going to be he would have charged £80  He said as he quoted £30 he would charge £30  :p I didn't let on how much of a nightmare it would be
