Can anyone give me some ideas about removing the rear drums on the terrano. It's the old r reg truck. Handbrake is rubbish on that side so want to give them a good dose of looking at.
Also advice on adjustment would be appreciated too.

Hi Jim, slacken of handbrake adjuster under handbrake, you can push aside the rubber shroud and you will see an M6 nylock nut, an M10 af deep socket, say 3/8" drive is easiest, slacken off.
Next, assuming wheel off and axle on axle stands, insert two M8 bolts into the face of the drum, tighten, and use a rubber mallet or hammer and block of wood to shock the drum.
If the M8 bolts do start to move the drum off the hub, first few turns will be easy, then it may become difficult. if so at this point, slacken fully both M8 bolts, then thump drum, you should hear a clunk, as the shoes drop back, then the drum should pull straight off.

For adjustment, refer to one of the workshop pages.
Hope it helps,
Richard

Before you touch anything once the drum is off, take some photo's, it helps a lot when you are trying to work out what spring goes where when trying put things back together.

I must admit I have never needed to back the handbrake off on either of our T2's, so you might want to try it without doing that first. It depends on how worn the rear drums are, and how much of a lip they have.

When I first got mine off there was a 2mm lip all round the drum - so even with the handbrake cable on full slack, it needed a lot of swearing...
I ended up replacing the entire inner workings - slave cylinders, shoes, springs etc.

on the back plate there is a black plastic tell tale sticking out, it might be stuck, if so tap it with a hammer a few times to free it off, its purpose is to tell you if the HB lever on the rear shoe is indeed in the fully off position, if you can push this button in then either the HB is on or the cable has been over adjusted, when you have finished working check that you cannot push this button in with the HB off, Rick

I wondered how those things work, now all I have to do is remember when I get around to doing mine :thumbs

The handbrake appears none existent on that side and the cable appears rather saggy.

Agree with all above and that was what I was geared up for but thought I'd give the drums a hit with a lump hammer first and off they came :thumb2
