Hear goes, after the terrible rain over last few days my Terrano has sprung a leak on the rear door seal. I've noticed it being slightly damp over the last few months, but it is wet now

Water is coming in at bottom left hinge side  above the plastic trim

Seal is on its track and all clips in place, seal is just past its sell by date (flat)

Has anyone changed the rear door seal and how much did it cost :?:

I suspect it will be a nightmare to get a new seal on the track as it has to be slid on in places.

I don't really want to get one from scrapy as it could just as bad.

-cheers-

How about some form of silicone sealant in it to bulk it out again where its leaking?

The water is coming over the top of the plastic trim.

If a new rubber is too expensive i'm going to run a bead of silicone along the top front edge of the trim to act as a dam 8)

Update, priced a new rubber from Nissan £100

Got price from The Parts Gateway (nissan1st) Nearly new £25

guess which I ordered -rotfl-

Should get it Wednesday and the fun starts fitting it

I had this trouble with mine, seem to be a common fault. Mine was leakin around the door seal and under the trim, tried changing the seal (new from nissan) and guess what, it still leaked. Only if i'd have siliconed it in the first place, could of save myself £100 quid. From what I remember of doing mine they are not to bad to do half hour to hour max.

The plastic trim is already siliconed underneath.

Its coming over the top of the trim on mine  at the hinge side of the door. I think the water is getting in side the rubber at the top and coming out of one of the drain holes at the bottom onto the plastic trim

update guys, replacement seal fitted.

Tried the old watering can and gave it a good soaking and no water going in.

I'm not smiling just yet will wait on proper rain before being fully convinced then I'll refit carpet and some nice new sound proofing (carpet underlay)

I'll keep you informed

Update ??

Hi there

Been following this thread as mine is the same - except I keep a nice crop of green algae on the boot carpet

Has the remedial work done the trick bearing in mind we have had plenty of rain to test it this summer ?

I've not studied where the water is getting in yet but the carpet is usually damp most of the time.

Cheers

Steve

I've not had any water in since changing seal 8)

I keep checking just incase

This is definitely a common problem. I remember this on a new Mav my dad had in 1994 but the dealer fixed it under warranty.

Mine also has this problem. The water was getting under the rear trim plate so I sealed it. Only problem now is that it comes over the top in very heavy rain! The temp fix is a towel folded on the carpet across the back door. This is very effective but I hope a more permanent fix may follow soon.

Exactly which seal/seals did you change?

mines was coming over the top of the trim. I thinks its because the seal gets out of shape after a while or the water runs down inside the seal and it comes out of one of the drain holes onto the top of the plastic trim??????

I made sure it wouldn't come it at the hinge side corner by runniing a bead of silicone across the top of the plastic trim in that corner. I've still got a towel in the boot just incase the seal leaks again!!!!!!!!

ok. Think on mine it gets past the inner seal and runs down the inside at either side so it only makes it up and over the edges of the plastic trim if the rain is heavy enough and/or depending on the angle of slope you're parked on!

Before I sealed under the trim any amount of water passed straight under and if it didn't get absorbed by the sound proofing made it as far as the middle row of seats!

Very interesting.....I could detect a musty smell, I checked the carpets and found the r/n/s carpet area wet...so now it's my turn to try and fix it, I will get the sealer out first, Not paying £100 for a new rubber.

I had this same problem on mine as well with a constantly damp boot carpet, water seemed to be getting in at the bottom corner near the hinge.

I removed all the trim surrounding the door opening and also the plastic trim at the bottom. Silicon sealed all the way round and put all the trim back on. Downside is the trim is now stuck down and would be a right pain to remove again.

The upshot is that it has been about 3 months now and not a drop has got back in. Cost of about £3 for some sealent so very pleased.

blame the previous keeper mate i would lol! think some are adjusting door shut to stop leaks aswell tube silicone seems much easier to me !

yeah I wouldnt fancy removing the door or adjusting it as it would be a real pain in the back side. Plus it is only going to move through use and come back.

Sealent method is just a cheap and easy method that means you dont need to buy the exepensive door seals.

I did have a small leak in the side rear window when it rained heavy though and simply removing the glass and re-seating, sorted it out. It is a 3door so they dont sit overly well as they just clip shut. Been ok for ages now.

Just need to sort the wiper stalk now as the switch part for the rear wiper has bust again.

Silicone sealer appeared to work. even formed a trough top left corner guiding running water to the side........only time will tell -groovy-

leaking rear door seal quickfix

Hi everyone, earlier this year I noticed that the rear carpet getting wet on the hinge side. I examined the the door seal which looked ok. reading on the forum that a new one would cost £100 I though that I would use a trick that had been a succsess on leaking caravan windows. I painted the whole door seal with clear WAXOL using a brush making sure that it ran into all the crevices let it dry and close the door. less than ten mins work. Well after touring europe in a very wet spring and living in cumbri where it can be very wet the terrano has stayed dry. bri
