I know that you are having trouble getting the drain plug out, which I did when I did my rear axle, but after you have done it replace it with a bit of that plumbers PTFE tape around the thread. It really makes removing it the next time a cinch. It also stops leaks around the drain plug.

This is probably a 'no no' and someone will have a good reason for not doing it!

If you can't get to an ait impact wrench, you could try an ordinary impact wrench 'gently as you can' watch those castings!
