Rear brake adjustment

Hello guys,

I am changing shoes on the rear but have problems with correct adjustment. In the workshop manual is written to "Shorten adjuster by rotating it, so that shoe outer diameter is
279 - 279.5 mm (10.98 - 11 in)." Shorten? The drum diameter is about 250mm. Can anybody give me a hint on how to correctly adjust the clearance please?

Be aware, that the auto adjusters don't really work that well, so adjustment is done at the wheel, so you can just get the drum back on.
Tip:- When adjusting at the rear wheel, make sure the adjuster at the handbrake is backed off, ie loose. This is a key point.:thumb2

As Rustic says. Important to slack off cable at front end. Auto adjuster are useless. David.

you do not give the year of your motor, if pre 2000 then the adjusters do not work and you will need to manually adjust till you can just get the drum on, make sure the hand brake fulcrum leavers in the back plate are fully back, if not slack the cable under the HB lever till they are, if the later model like Alex well surprise, surprise, the auto adjusters are of a better design and actually work, Rick

Solarman: I'm sorry i forgot that. It's 1999 and looking at the adjusters i suspect they are rather useless I of course appreciate your time as well.

I might have even bigger problems with the vehicle but let's see tomorrow.
