Hello all, I've a 97 Mav LWB 2.7TDi with a rear diff gone, can anyone confirm the same shape (4 headlight) 97 2.4 petrol rear axle is the same and the ratio is the same ?
Thanks
Brenden

I think Rick (Solarman) is the most likely to know the answer to that, but I don't think he will be on here until this evening.

What symptoms are you getting to make you think the diff is gone? Where abouts in wales are you?

Petrol Ratio is different, but as Fez says, what makes you think it has gone, Rick

Glad Pete and fez asked because I wanted to know how you think a rear diff has gone, is it slipping

or are you getting the old "judder and bounce" of rear wheel(s) ? :nenau

Some parked cars on Cannock Chase at night, suffer from that one...:naughty

So I've been told.:augie

:lol:lol

If Alex is right, then a simple oil change with LSD oil, run it, then change it again in a month or so, might sort it.
Good post Alex...:thumb2

Conwy Valley. Oil leak from pinion oil seal, whine when powering on and backlash when throttle on / off. 158k on the clock and by the look of the twin electrics it's been used for towing a caravan at some point.

OK Question, what diff is it, the one with the thin cover plate on the rear of the diff, or the one where the whole diff bolts in from the front, if it is the second one I would be surprised if anything more than the oil seal was bad, if it is the first one, then maybe as these are not so strong, how do you know the backlash is in the diff and not the box? Rick
