I have a right old squeak when I turn the wheel, seems only when Im backing out of my drive at slow speed but goes away on the open road.
Ive oiled everything I can see but I have read there should be two nylon hex caps that cover thee steering stops and these can wear away but to be honest I have no idea what these look like or where they should go?

The brakes are fine and I can't see anything unduly worn out when I took the front wheels off?

The steering stops will often graunch when on full lock only, and can be cured by a blob of grease on all four, one at the front of each hub, one on the rear of each hub, at the 9:00 and 3:00 o'clock positions.
Crawl underneath, you will see a bolt head sticking out, from the hub that contacts a steel curved bracket on the lower wishbone when the steering is turned.
They have a plastic cap over the head, this can wear, it can be replaced, but most of is don't bother, just grease up the stops twice a year .... sorted.

Dare I say.... mine are the originals... over 20 years old...:doh

All greased up and its ok on full lock now - still got some squeaks when turning though and the front suspension sounds noisy but 90% better than it was.
A Big Thanks.

Squeeks and clunks could be your front Anti Roll Bar (ARB) drop links, need replacing every few years.

Open your driver's door on level ground, hand brake off, if safe... with the door open, rock the car up and down by pushing on the underside of the door frame...

You might hear all sorts of clunks, at least you will know which side to start.

Arb drop-links clunks...
upper ball joints clunks
lower ball joints clunks
rubber bushes on arb, a sort of squeek swoosh..
rubber bushes on suspension as above..
If the handbrake is on, you will get clunks from that, as the shoes move..
hope it helps,
Rustic
