Hiya guys, thought I'd do a real life mpg test this week, rather than reading figures quoted at a steady 50mph!

Brimmed the tank, Drove from high Wycombe to Birmingham, couple of local journeys, then Birmingham to Anglesey.Brimmed the tank again.
Sat at 70mph on motorways and at the speed limits round town. Results:
Total miles 313
Litres used 38.44
Mpg = 37.02!!!!!

I'm really pleased, especially as the car was loaded to the roof with camping kit!
Had been starting to think about a more economical car, but 37 to the gallon would be hard to beat in anything that could load lug like the T2!!

Thats bloody amazing!
How did you figure out the litres used so precisely?

good figures. though I must admit to finding myself doubting them just a little.

Not really as he has the 3.0l which is a lot better then the 2.7tdi but u can't run svo at all in the 3.0l so it works out better in the 2.7tdi running 100% veg. I get equivalent to 45mpg in the 2.7tdi on 100% veg:thumbssorry bout 41-44 mpg

8.63 gallons for 313 miles!!!!! nah do the test again, Rick

what conversion are you using ? I make it 8.46 uk gal using 4.456 >1

So you are saying more to the gallon with veg than real diesel:doh

Getting number dislexia :augie I put 45.46 litres of diesel + 200ml acetone every 3rd tank(reduce fuel by 200ml) & get 400 miles per fill week in week out = 40mpg but its not A terrano :rolleyes:

I just popped the figures into www.mpg-calculator.co.uk
Figures are definitely genuine, I'm doing a repeat test on the way back, though I had 80ish miles of local driving round Anglesey before the return journey so expect a bit less mpg.

On the way up I passed the tank half full marker at 260 miles on the trip, And now back in Birmingham I passed the half full marker at about 235miles.
I'll update when I get back and refil the tank!

hiya chaps,
an update on the mpg figures...
following the return journey I ran the tank all the way down till the light came on with local driving, then just went and re-brimmed it, total miles for the tank 489.6
So total miles 489.6
Of which about 270 miles on motorways, 210 miles around town.
litres used: 64.76
MPG = 34.87

much more of a combined cycle, so a couple of mpg less as expected.
really happy with the mpg, but I can't lie, it hurt alot to refil the tank £89!! ouch. :(

That's the nice thing bout the 3l Di but on the other hand u can't run veg like the 2.7tdi. So in all when on 100% veg 2.7 is cheaper to run as veg at mo is 92p a litre compared to diesel at 1.37 a litre .

andy4x4 fuel mpg

hi i`m trying to work out the mpg on my 1998 swb terrano 2.7 tdi manual i`ve owned it for the last 3 weeks, i run it down until the fuel light came on, then put £30 of diesel in asda i run it all week for work and around on the weekend i clocked the milage as soon as the light came on, that worked out 22.27 litres (£30 quid in asda) and covering 164 miles which worked out at 33.7 mpg i dont think thats bad for a 14 year old lump. i was going through £40 of petrol in my vitara doing the same milage, that was lighter and long wheelbase with auto choke i`m glad i got rid when i did.:clap

remember that the speedometers on these are out slightly.

best way to get the mpg is fill it untill the pump stops. Then drive around clocking the mileage then fill up untill the pump stops again.

The most accurate way is too fill till u see the fuel in the filler neck reset trip drive then fill to neck again that's the only way to do it right pump will click off at diff points:thumbs

Don't go by fuel gauge or light not very actually done try again with fuel at the neck I.e so u can see the fuel but I will bet u wish u didn't.ur way means its doing better then it really is:doh

andy 4x4 mpg

i used the details off the till reciept 22.27 ltres @134.7p =£30.00 i set the trip meter to zero, when the fuel light came back on wrote down the milage, then using the mpg calculator, ooooh i realised my mistake:doh i put 164 miles it should have been 146 miles i am actually getting 29.8 miles, that sounds more realistic. still its more than i was getting in my old vitara. still i dont think thats too bad for a 14 year old truck.
