Had a letter just before Christmas regarding the reclassification of Brushfield lane(monsal head)
to bridleway status.
Vehicle user groups and individuals such as myself have been fighting the Definitive Map Modification Order for over 2 years now but to no avail :(
Another iconic lane in the peaks lost to the Anti's.
Me and a group of friends are heading out on Friday to have one last drive before vehicular rights are extinguished for good.
This will most likely be within the next 6 weeks or so.
If anyone fancies a trundle out that way in the near future to give it one last drive let me know and I would gladly show you the way.

It's from the bridge over the river at Upperdale to the farm at Brushfield so yes the whole lane.

Get some photos or video to remember it by. I've been down some lanes in Derbyshire but no idea what they were called other than two places. I think one was called Pindale and the other referred to as the steps.

Just looked on youtube and found a disco 300tdi doing monsal head, looked familiar towards the top and I think Ive driven it but in the dark. Did have to laugh though, the blokes mrs was complaining about the drops at the side of the track and the lack of railings to stop cars going off the edge:lol

Chelmorton White Derbyshire !

Only Lane I know is the one me and my mate got stuck on during the D.F.S.Rally circa 1975/6. We were about 3/4 of the way through the stages in my mates 1275 Cooper when the vehicle in front of us a Hillman 998 Rally Imp got stuck in heavy rain on the infamous Chelmorton White. We tried in vain to climb out of the deep mud ridge to get past but failed and that was the end of the event for us and about 4 other small cars.

Lack of ground clearance and a big heavy full front sump shield kept us stuck on the muddy ridge until the morning when a Landy towed us off! When we got out of the car in our shoes we sunk into the mud above our ankles. Only redeeming feature was the Breakfast provided by D.F.S. the well known furniture store at the finish.

All I know is it will be within the next six weeks Jim.
I'm keeping tabs on the council as there are a fair few folks in the green laning community that want to give it one last drive.

Great Pics

I love the pictures esp ecially the aquatic ones. There is a neat Ford out the top end of Ashbourne way where the road goes up a brook a short distance. If it's your first time the road seems to end with the water. If it's not been raining too much you can do it in a car.

I think it's this one at Clifton SK164454

Yeah I know the one at Clifton, gets very deep after heavy rain.another one of my favourites is at butterton.
It's actually 3 fords with a cobbled bottom and this follows the stream bed for a couple of car lengths, after heavy rain all three join into one big run along the stream bed.
Not one for big groups of 4x4 to go thundering down as it's in the centre of a quiet village.

It's about 35 years ago I was on my Standard Driving Course driving a Cortina when the Instructor sent me down this road entering Butterton Village and the road looked as though it was a dead end into a wide Brook. I stopped just before the water and was told to turn right and drive up the stream ! The water was flowing right across the width of the road and I did as I was told and drove what seemed quite a distance up the Brook that was more like a small River!

I managed to find the place in the Summer a few months later when out with the Missus and somehow it all seemed much smaller ! I guess as the water level was down it lost it's previous magic.
