just out of intrest terra but how much did you pay for the bushes from super pro, couldn't find any prices when i looked before, and couldn't find the bushes you mentioned thats why i was going to fit new steering idlers.

p.s any chance of a few pictures if possible :?:

I am following this thread with interest, as no doubt I will at some time have to replace mine.
I have looked and there is no down load on how to do this.
Do you have to take off the tension on the torsion bars, jack up the chassis etc, at what point can you take out the bushes so there is limited side force on them, what is the best procedure. You mentioned using a press or brass mallet, so I assume that the arm must be removed yet other people may have done this in situ, some just fall out.
How can you actually check that they need replacing and which ones?
How long can they be expected to last? 83k not changed mine yet!
There is no detail in the CD on how to do this.

Opportunity for someone to compile a down-load.
What do you think?

I'm in Oz so price won't help you at all.
If you can get the whole idler (you only need the one) at a good price then do that. Like I said the new idler bush didn't help a lot. The OEM was white UHMWPE 'engineering plastic' or similar the new one was black plastic and sorta felt cheap, not like original.
I didn't take any pics of the job.
The idler was easy, though you blokes get more corrosion over there so it could be a hassle.

To do the upper arms I pulled the whole arm out. The pivot comes off the chassis with the A-arm in one unit (mark pin for correct replacement and note any shims etc so they go back in the right way) - you undo the ball joint at the other end of the arm to remove it.
Then you belt the pin and bushes out of the A-arm (I have no press).
The lower arms just rest on a second jack (from memory) so you don't worry about the torsion bars at all.
Check your ball joints first, and replace them at the same time if needed.

After fitting the new poly bushes don't snug-up the bolts too tight until the car is off the jack, at normal ride height, and the bushes are in their normal rotation position.

To check if the upper arm bushes are shagged. Look at them whilst wheels are on the ground. The pin should be central in the bush. If it isn't and the arm has moved toward the chassis rail a lot then they will need replacing. Whilst looking at them get someone to push sideways on the top of the wheel. There will be a lot of movement at the pin/bush if they are stuffed.

To check idler bush just grab the arm and shake it up and down. If it moves too much replace it (see manual).

Don't forget to nip-up the steering box too, that can help. Don't overdo it though - you'll probably only need a 1/4 to 1/2 turn. It's a bit fiddly.
Likewise check front wheel bearings and adjust as required - it all helps.

Do a quick tape measure toe alignment then go and get a proper alignment done. Although if your draglink is anything less than 'almost new' then the alignment will vary "whilst driving". Hence passenger side tyre wearing poorly and vague steering at straight ahead position.

Thanks Terra, that really helps a lot, I'll check mine in a few days time to see if they need replacing.

thanks terra, will have a look at that when i get chance.do seem to have a bit of play in the bearings.as for prices sometimes its chaeper to import stuff than it is to get it localy :?

Oh, then in that case the whole lot of upper-inner bushes the lower-rear bushes and idler bush cost $142 Aussie pesos. Can't remember breakdown of prices. This was well cheap compared to Nissan though.
Kit included the steel crush tubes and rubber grease etc. Don't know what shipping to UK would be. Don't know if they even ship O/S.
