Does anyone know anything about the old Rav4's just the Son came in today saying he's seen a 1998 with 105K on the clock he fancies buying:eek: to say it was a shock is an understatement as he's into modded hot hatches but it'll work out £500 a year cheaper to insure a 2L Rav4 than his modded Hyundai Accent 1300:eek::eek: sadly a T2 is silly money for him:doh if he does get it he wants to modded it for green laning which will be nice as will be able to have a family day out on the lanes:D

They are very tough! And very cheap to buy.

Not proper 4wd, I believe they have a button to engage some sort of 4wd up to 20mph :nenau

The missus was looking at same era, meant to be reliable!

I like them, generally reliable although the D4D's have the usual DMF woes, there's a good SMF conversion about for decent money, not really an off roader compared to a Grand Vitara, so most likely used as a "normal" car by suburban yummy mummies, the odd owner thinks they are a Terrano and tries to tow horseboxes or big caravans which does them no good whatsoever.

I'd rather have one than a Freelander!

I think they come in a 2wd or permanent 4wd with a centre diff lock.
No low box though, same as the wife's terios.

Not looked at it yet but from what our James has said the one he's seen has a centre diff lock button on the dash:thumb2 (most disco 2's don't have CDL:lol) yes their perm 4WD as far as I know but no low box sadly but TBH never needed it myself on our local lanes & only ever had to use 4L a handful of times & that was on lanes in the Yorkshire Dales & in the Lake:augie

Quick search but must get ready for work, could not find a direct answer for 4wd, I think some are perm and some have a lock button up to 25mph :nenau

Thanks guy's took a look at it needed 4 tyres & 2 bottom ball joints & the dealer wasn't going to budge on the price even thou he wanted top money for it:doh with a 105K on the clock thought I better check the clutch out norm handbrake on select 5th, rev it & dump the clutch & oh boy could I rev that engine in gear & not move forwards:eek: yip clutch stuffed the whole carpark was sticking of burnt clutch:lol:lol:lol
