ok, with Derbyshire day looming, and me signing myself up, I need to sort out a rattle i have. In Jan the car passed MOT with two advisory - Nearside and Offside front (lower) shock absorber has a slightly worn rubber bush. Could this be the cause of my rattle? the sound is present going over rough ground, and SOUNDS like its at the front AND back, but certainly more from the front.

If it IS the front shock bushes, is this new shocks, or are the shocks and bushes one unit? I hav epriced up shocks, and were talking £60 the pair, which isnt bad, so kinda makes sense to change them if they are coming off anyway?

any other things to check for rattles??
once im happy with what to check change im going to order the bits and book it in for the work as I dont know if id be able to do it myself....!

as far as i know you can not get shock absorber bushes on the own unless you can get after market bushes.
also while you are having a looking underneath check the anti roll bar bushes and links.

cheers Mark,

ill order the full shocks then tomorrow, i was going to order some anti roll bar links anyway £18 pair on fleabay, and will look for the bushes as you mentioned, never thought of that cheers!

**just checked, what are the anti roll bar bushes??

the bushes are fitted where the anti roll bar is bolted on the vehicle, i doubt the bushes will be worn just grab the bar and see if it moves.

yep most rattles are the torsion bar bushes as basically they are under
front seats underneath.

not a problem, mine were going for ages, and passed several tests
along way.

plus off road worn bushes aid flex, so wouldnt worry at this stage.

I'll need new bushs for next MOT :(
But
Might be the old 1's back in if they dont fall apart :augie :lol

The compression rod bushes are worth checking these often cause a rattle under the foot well area when on rough ground, when worn.

Would "Rose Joints" all round be a well worth 'off road' mod...

Slight thread rape here sorry :augie
On my recent landing into the ground the wishbone got pushed back a bit ant the comp bush has suffered the most it seems. I had to weld in new metal last year for the mot and fitted poly bushes then. BUT the head on into the ground has changed all that :lol
So I'll be killing two bushes with one spanner :naughty

lol, cheers guys!!

the ideas about the noise under the seats is spot on, thats how it feels, so im looking in the right place. i dont know what the compression joints are, or what to buy for them, but ill have a search and buy what i think i need because i may as well have it all done for the sake of a bit more labour. Glad to know its just noise, rather than anything more serious, but ill get it done anyway!

cheers guys!:thumbs

I had a banging noise when i first got my terrano.
turned out that some bright spark had fitted a different rear gearbox mount.:doh
so you can never take anything for granted.

when i grabbed the gearbox and gave it a good shake ,something on the side of g box was hitting transmission tunnel .But it felt like it was something under the drivers seat.
put new mount on gearbox and it then sat a little lower .
no more problem.:thumb2
