Lol nah, I'm loving my terrano. And also as much as id love the 4.0 lump I cant put veggie in it :augie (otherwise id have one)

Yes you can, It will run better than a terrano on veg :doh

End of the day the terrano is a light/medium offroader. Nothing can change that unless you spend a few thousand pounds on custom stuff. All possible but you just have to throw money at it.

Look at petes, Thats about the limit it can go without spending stupid money. Although it's a cool truck and he has learnt a lot from it I think he wishes he just bought a patrol earlier? :naughty

if I could afford it I would have one of these

and the mrs could have this as her daily run about

not nissans I know but still an awesome pair of trucks.

Well actually, i have a slightly different view on this. Yes i agree that you would have to throw stupid money at it, however, I admire the terrano for the simple fact of its mechanics (engine only) the cam gears are a master peice, and although not super speedy, i love it!

After being bitten on the backside with replacing a cam chain and all surrounding parts i know the pain of it believe me :doh

Now if there was a bigger and badder cam gear driven 4x4 monster engine that ran on veggie we'd be talking :naughty (engine transplant time) :D

But in short, I love the terrano and its hassle free life, lets face it, the timing aint gonna break :clap

Alex mate, you need to pay attention better ;) we're on about the 4.2 diesel engine in the Y60 Trols which will run on anything and uses timing gears, just like the 2.7. It will also transplant almost straight into a 3.0 Y61 Trol if you have the time and money (same drivetrain so move a couple engine mounts and away you go) :naughty

I think you are thinking of the 3.0 diesel in the Y61 Trols like mine. No it won't run on veg but as I've said (until I'm blue in the face ) it's not a normal chain cam engine, it's a hybrid gear/chain, and the chain is so underused that it will never need touched (and that's coming from the guys in Aus who seriuously know their stuff). The cam chain argument don't work.

The (prematurely failing) DMF argument does but you won't get that with a 4.2 Y60... (and you can fit a solid conversion to the 3.0 anyway, like I did).

One of the live-axled Lancruiser 105's :naughty *drool*

They've stopped making them though since the 200 series came out (IFS) :(

They do still sell the 70 series in Aus though, with a 4.5 V8 :naughty:naughty

what year do these 4.2s run from?

Now a 4.2 troll lump with a turbo bolted onto it would be very interesting in a T2:D

Not if they were 35's 37's or  38's

You gotta think further ahead boy:thumb2

the bigga picture.....

come to think of it the bigga everything :augie

Troll... Troll... Troll... Troll...:bow

I'm glad you mention as for the last 5 hours that's all ive been thinking of.
Now theoretically any engine can be put into any car.

Has anyone got dimensions of a y60 bonnet area?

If this is remotely doable I will be saving for it. :naughty

I love my terrano to bits it's an amazing vehicle, had I known the 4.2 was gear driven ne runs on veg I must admit I prob would have got that, although I did not know about veg at the time.

How difficult would the transplant be? Engine, ecu, loom is a must, what about drive?

ECU's not on a 4.2D that I'm aware of you need to connect the Startermotor, fuel soleniod and feed and return fuel pipes. Oh and the waterpipes. Oh and throttle cable think thats it:clap

Your kidding right? :nenau

No engine electronics... :naughty

I guess the tricky bit would be connecting to driveshaft n gearbox no? :nenau

C'mon spur me on and I'll get it done :naughty

I have fitted a Rover V8 to a mk2 Capri - that was the best
my morris minor had a marina 1300 TC engine bolted straight onto the 850 box.

Fitted a Essex 3.0l v6 and ford auto box to a Mk1 nissan bluebird auto

My Mini traveller got a fibreglass front end and an MG1300cc engine onto the 1000cc box

every thing is possible... it's the ammount of time effort and money that is involved that is the problem:(

So your the man the hassle then :lol

*scribbles patrolman on his engine conversion list*

You could fit a Troll engine to a terrano...... then upgrade the Terrano body and chassis to a Troll body and chassis... Then You have what you secretly want......

A Troll... Troll... Troll... Troll... Troll... Troll...:naughty

As much as I would love a troll I am definately sticking with my terrano.

Do you suspect it is a massive job to carry out an engine transplant?

Bit of a grey area I can imagine :augie

That is why most of the "Big" trucks are not road legal, as the wheels have to come outside the body. This is not only because of the wheel arches, but also for stability, and to get the angles on the drive shafts down a bit.

Most are on custom built space frame chassis, not your proper ladder chassis like we have.

Power can always be increased by reducing the gearbox ratios and Diff ratios, but again at a cost, and increased wear and tear on all the CV and UJ joints.

excuse me! I'm getting there :lol

Alex mate, the enthusiasm is great but lets just think sensibly, for once :doh:rolleyes:...

First, power to weight ratio isn't gonna be spectacular. BHP of the 4.2 turbo is less than the 3.0TDi - which is already available in the Terrano.

The 4.2's characteristic, the one that would make me swap my 3.0TDi for a 4.2 non turbo in an instant, is its reputation for having massive amounts of low down torque, from what I've heard, enough to tow a big fully loaded twin axle trailer up a hill at idle, along with the weight of the troll

Second, the Trol bonnet is BIG. Both the Y60 and Y61 Trol bonnets were designed to fit a 6cyl engine (4.2 & 2.8 are both 6 pot). Look at this pic from the Wales weekend, you can see the difference in bonnet length between Fez's Mav and my Trol (at least I can :nenau).

The 3.0 is a 4cyl so there is space in the engine bay that they (partly) fill with a longer fan shroud.

Third, as Patrolman said, think about the time, effort and money to make the engine/gearbox etc fit together. I know the 4.2 can slot straight into a 3.0 Trol but that's purely because they just moved a couple of engine mounts to fit the 3.0. You have to do a bit more if fitting the 4.2 into a 2.8 Trol.

If you really want a 4.2 diesel, just buy a Trol for crying out loud and get the cracking engine AND the front live axle :doh :thumbs
