id imagine thats bull,i remember putting an audi 1.9tdi engine into a vw sharan vw said id need them to recode pump to ecu,it started and ran good as gold! stealers want there piece pie!

my daughter works as a service plan consultant, for a main dealers that has franchises for Mazda, Citroen, Volvo, Chrysler, Honda etc. etc. And for most new cars this is true -ECU coded stereos - but i don't know what date it would have begun on a Nissan.

I thought the 'ECU coding' just meant that when its removed and reinstalled in the same vehicle it doesn't need a code because the ECU recognises it.

I'm sure theres a way to force it to take the code but can't remember what it is.....I did find the one I said I had at the weekend so might try it on the wifes truck...

Have you not got the radio instruction book or is that where you got the ECU thing from?

Its been left on all night still says secure.maybe locked off cos someone entered wrong code. will try another radio if i can find one.got the original from my 96 but sockets on the back are different.

I'll post a pic of the back of this one.....I did have the code somewhere so will try and dig it out.

i don't know about Nissan, but for many cars the stereo is coded to the ECU and upgrades have to be done by the 'stealers' :(

just been told i can get it decoded so it runs like an aftermarket radio.

Radio Coding

I have the same problem. Bought a replacement original stereo and cd mutlichanger with 'code' but owners manual says linked to ECU. Did you get yours unlocked so it works like an after martket stereo? If so, by who and how much did it cost?

Thanks in advance.

My radio says SONY CDX-L450 & as there is no fascia on it I guess it is not the original
