Hi all, having put the Mrs new TDi on the road, find that the radio/tape player/cd with cd changer under the drivers seat works but display was dead, took it out and found some gunk in the front panel, probably spilt fizzy drink residue, so cleaned it all off and reassembled, got some display but not enough to be useful, it has Nissan on the front but is a Blaupunkt unit, anyone got any ideas as to best way forward, I am not interested in incar entertainment but this is the wifes motor and she carries handicapped kids and they like music to keep them occupied, different cd's for different kids, so need to get this sorted, is a replacement front possible or is it a new unit, this is not my area so out of my depth, any help appreciated, but keep it simple and if I go replacement will the plugs all fit? Rick

I slung mine sorry. and the changer.
I have seen enough lads on here changing there head unit has anyone got a standard one spare?:nenau

No idea if another front will work but if you replace the player then any single din will fit.
You may need an ISO plug adaptor to suit the Terrano loom is all .Easily sourced for a few quid on fleabay or half an arm in Halfrauds :thumbs

Getting hold of a good secondhand unit would be very hit and miss, I looked for a while with no luck.
Eventually bought a dabs unit from Halford, if you watch there site for a while you will get a good bargain. My Sony with dabs, use etc cost less than £100 a bargain I thought
(it has a cd player built in as well)
Forgot to say if you find one on there site order it for pickup, go and have a look before you tell them you have ordered it that way if you don't like you don't buy.

When I got my T2, I had the same issues, I took the radio apart, and had a go at re-soldering all the connections to the display, but it made no difference.

The LCD screen is a laminate, and the thin ribbon cables actually passes into the laminate and there is nothing you can do to improve the connection at the LCD end.

It seems that squeezing along the connector edge makes some bits start to work, and others fail. I tried all sorts of ways to get it to all come on, but there were sections that refused to come on, no matter where I squeezed it, so I came to the conclusion that damp had got under the laminate, and corroded the joints.

When I worked for Samsung, the LCD's had gold plated minute terminals on the edge of the LCD, and these were pressed against a striped carbonised rubber, that made the electrical connection between the board and the LCD, and it was purely the pressure of the join that made the connection, and kept the contacts clean. If one failed, a quick wipe with IPA could fix it normally, but sometimes, the rubber connector needed replacing as well.

The next problem is, since the radio is supposed to be married to the ECU/Alarm, you can't just swap one T2 radio from car to another.

I looked into trying to get my unit repaired, but I think because of it's age, most places have moved on, and do not seem to bother with it any more, and the only one I did find, was up north somewhere, and was going to charge more than a cheap new unit anyway. Even then, they were not sure if they would be able to source the LCD panel.

I opted to fit a Pioneer I already had, and got a second hand MultiChanger off of Ebay for it. As mentioned you can get a converter for the main wiring, allowing a different head unit to be installed very easily, but I could not find anything to convert the CD Multi Changer lead, which all seem to be wired uniquely and have their own style of plugs, for their specific manufactures, meaning you can not put a Blaupunkt/Clarion Multi Changer, as installed by Nissan onto, say a Sony or Pioneer head unit. I just ran the new wires under the carpet, from the radio head unit, to under the drivers seat, and re-used the mounting plate from the Nissan MultiChanger, to fix my Pioneer one to.

Thanks for all the feed back, looks like a new radio then, funny have only just noticed I have a similar radio in my LPG converted motor (yet to be put on the road) but two things, one it does not support CD and the display has gone on this one as well:doh, Rick

I will have look for you mate.there was nothing wrong with the head unit but the multichanger was tempramental when I removed mine.

Let me know if it's what you want or if you want any more pics.

Ah what a shame it is a different model, my tape is where your display is and the SRC button is over on the right and down somewhat, if it had been the same model I could have changed the front panel and would not have altered the coding to the ECU, am sure your unit will require Nissan to re code it to my ECU at stupid price, but and there is always a but let me find out tomorrow, in the mean time can you put a pic up of the sockets on the rear, regards Rick

rick it may be easier if you put pic of required unit on here

Will take some more pics tomorrow as I packed it away now and I'm off to bed.
Up at 5.00 am and I'm knackered:thumb2

Hi Guys,

On this thread, I have the same problem.....the LCD is crap, so I cannot make out what is playing.... the cd changer is impossible to put a head cleaner in, so I was thinking of changing the whole shooting match for a nice mech-less JVC unit that takes micro usb stick. and whipping the multichanger out.

I plucked up the courage to pop out the set this morning using an old wire coat hanger in the two holes (double din facia unit 2001 T2 3.00 ltr, same as very top piccie).

I was confronted by the usual suspects in the way of wiring sockets..... and have to source a hazard warning switch to fit into a new facia panel...

I assume (rightly or wrongly) that I can get an ISO lead kit to match the old sockets to a new JVC from fleabay or amazon, and have seen a a Nissan hazard switch from caraudioparts that is a direct but single replacement for the infacia/irremovable unit.

How do I determine, which is the hazard switch wiring/plug?

I have attached a piccie of the back of the Blaupunkt unit.....

Kind regards

JohnB

It's the brown one, bottom left.:thumbs

The big one to the right of the brown is the main iso connection.
I presume the top one is for the cd player/changer.

TrophyMick,

Thank you for that info......I have taken the plunge and ordered up some kit.....new radio, harness, micro usb stick and iso audio adaptor.

I still need a decent looking hazard warning switch to fit into new facia panel, which I will have to fabricate myself..... I have seen one on fleabay..........

A bit pricey, but the cars very clean and tidy and I don't want to bodge it up badly.
