absolutely no problem.

you'll need an adaptor cable that just plugs in between your existing wiring loom and the new stereo - if you haven't got steering wheel audio controls then its a standard 'all-Nissan' ISO adaptor cable you need - about £12-13. Motorists shop should stock them or you can get them on fleabay.

Thanks for info, i was led to believe that because mine has NATS a re program would be needed

mine didnt, just unplug the old one, and use the right iso cable ( from ebay ) and an arial adapter job done

No NATS has no connection with the ICE at all. :thumbs

Fraid it does.

The radio takes listens for a specific code from the immobilizer unit to allow it to work.

A brand new radio is virginised and the first time it is turned on, it learns the code.

If you then take that radio to another car, it will receive no code, or not the one it is expecting and won't work.

Tim.

Thats not been my experience in three trucks (2 x Nissans and a Mav) where I've swapped out OEM stereo for new kit Timbo. I agree the OEM radio is coded and won't work in other Nissans even (but you can even get the code if you want it from t'internet and MAKE it work, as I have done) , but replacing it with an aftermarket unit doesn't have any implications whatsoever, unless someone has actual experience of this elsewhere that conflicts with mine?

Plus I am 99% sure that radio codes are hard-coded into the unit when they are used...agree the security system on later trucks 'learns' that code (only on the OEM stereo that was installed from new) or is programmed with it at the factory, but being a passive device, the system can't 'download' a new code to a new radio...thats my humble take on things...

PS, thinking about it, I did indeed remove a Nissan OEM cassette (remember them!) player in one truck and replace it with another Nissan OEM unit but with CD.....thats how I came to know how to get the codes (you need to know what manufacturer supplied the stereo and what mainstream unit its based on, cos it always is...) and I simply banged in the code (which was the same as when it was installed in a previous truck) and hey presto...

Also, while on earlier trucks, if you disconnected and reconnected the OEM stereo it asked you for the code, on my 02-plate T2, before finally replacing it, it never asked for anything when I refitted it temporarily....not sure if they changed things somehow on later trucks..

As i implied, fitting an aftermarket HU to a T2 with NATS won't cause any issues.

It is if the original Nissan HU is installed into *another* truck that it wont work.

If you remove and refit a Nissan HU the unit will either remember the code, or will require igntion on for the code to be broadcast and then it will work.

Still not sure quite what you mean Tim...if you're saying the code is supplied by the immobiliser I have to disagree - its hard-coded into the radio like all car stereos are that use coding. Thats why, provided you can work out who made the stereo and what model its based on, you can go online and find the code (for about three quid as I recall) and use that to install it on another vehicle; exactly what I did with the OEM CD unit I pinched from another T2 to upgrade the existing OEM cassette player.

still no idea about computer re program for nats to work BUT enjoyed your argument.
WHO WON AND IS RIGHT ????.

I upgraded my radio worked ok, didnt like new radio so took it out and installed in caravan and worked ok, put nissan radio back ok so seems alarm plays no part in the radio installation
but then mine is a 1997 terrano. bri
