Hi, tried fitting new radio (Sony, not Ford) to my Maverick, 2.7 swb diesel (L)

Used new adaptor (new wiring harness), all lights up, aerial works - No sound!

Tried the knobs before you start!

There are two 'spare' cables (see photos) One appears to come from the old amp (beneath driver's seat), the other I know not where?!!
The amp fitting does not fit into the aux on the new radio!
Firstly, is the amp the likely reason for no sound in this case? If so, can an adaptor be obtained for connecting to the old amp fitting?

Help appreciated as always, would be lost without this bloody site!

Regards - Paul

Cant see the photos (possibly me :augie )

Im no expert on these modern fit radios but one thing I have come across is subtle differences on the iso adaptors you buy. Double check theres only one available for yours and if theres more than one, which one youve got.

Ive just fitted a parrot hands free in the wifes car, one model of lead had the mute wire in the wrong place, the other had 3 in different places so you could choose :doh point is they both physically fitted but one didnt work and I spent ages working it out :(

it could be that the speakers are conected to the amp, so if the amp is not plugged in - no sound!

you could try connecting them straight to the stereo and do away with the amp, how loud do you want it anyway? :thumbs

if you pm me your reg, when i get to work (halfords) ill see if there is any secondary connections you need. i see you got the iso lead correct so i cant see why the external amp should be affecting the sound.

its not on mute is it????? lol

Hi Si, not on mute, tried that one!

Reg No L244 XHP, cheers mate, appreciate your help - Paul

As has been said Paul, take the amp out of circuit entirely, because unless your new head unit has a pre-amp capability (and connections) its spurious....sadly I don't what you need to reconnect where but I'm sure there are other threads on this from memory...do a search...cheers! Paul.

Hi Si (Halfords), did you have any luck re the radio enquiry & my Maverick (L)?
Cheers, Paul

Hi Lacroupade - Thanks for that advice. If I miss the amp out then as you suggested, what else could be causing the lack of sound? Have searched all the other threads, but nothing conclusive! - Cheers, Paul

pressed the mute button ? :augie...... to test speakers get a little battery 9 volt or similar place one end of the speaker wire on one terminal , the other wire on the other terminal ... you will hear a click. speakers ok

Well I'm assuming the squeakers worked with your old setup, and that this 'amp' is indeed an amp and not a CD changer, and IS an OEM install? In which case its probably something to with the wiring and adaptor cables, but Mr Halford is probably your best bet I'd say (the standard setups without that amp ar a doddle to replace and get adaptor cables for....PM him if he doesn't pop by soon.

this is what you need

halfords sell these and they are bloody expensive at £23.99

PC9-402 Ford active Smart lead

not listed for the maverick but i fitted a new jvc stereo to mine today and i had the same leads as you.

i used this lead and hey presto.............................. sound!

hope this resolves your issue

regards
phil
