I am no expert, but could it be the turbo, that has Exhaust, water and oil all on close proximity... have they done a compression test to confirm the head gasket.

My car was looking like the end of the world with all the oil it was burning, and water it was using... through a process of elimination, changed water pump, turbo and valve seals, and it is as good as new now..

Thanks for the info. What role does the water play in the turbo. I thought the turbo was oil cooled?

No noise from the turbo and the only oil is that dropping from the sump.

My 2.7 maverick started to leak quite badly to the point where i had to top the water up every other day.Water pump gasket was destroyed.

Cheers Gav

just as an aside, after changing the exhaust front section on my 2.7td ( sheared bolts so had to remove turbo:banghead) i had a small leak from the coolant pipe under the turbo, its a bastard to get to so im guessing i havent tightened it up enough?! but its gunna stay that way now. there are so many bits and bobs on this engine that are practically impossible to reach with the engine in.

I am guessing cooling as well... when I did mine, there are 4 pipes to it, top and bottom ones are oil in and out, left and right are water... most annoying as I had only recently changed the antifreeze when I did the water pump, and it is practically impossible to catch the water from the T2 (well as I have found so far) so it got a second change about a month later. Still, th water system is nice and clean...:lol

Take the flexible pipe off the front of the turbo, that runs from the MAF housing and have a look in there... mine had a load of oil in there, but it was not until it had gone really bad that I ever saw any being burnt., although it did smell of oil. Even when it was drinking oil at the rated of 2 litres aver 100miles, the turbo never sounded noisy.

The bottom pipe on mine is the oil out of the turbo, and has a curved pipe with a 2 bolt flange on bolted to it... I discovered that the old fashioned style doglegged 1/2" ring spanner, upside down could get on those bolts to tighten them up when in situ. (Luckily).

If it is water, then it is either the one against the engine (Good luck), or the one on the outside.
