Hi,
I have a 27 spline fixed hub on my Terrano sve td 2002 chasis no VSKTWUR20U0492400. Will the manual or auto freewheel hubs fit my vehicle.
Bryn

You are better off with manuals at least with manual when you reverse in mud they still stay engaged not like auto that are inclined to release in reverse.

even if the levers in the right position?

Try this site if for your manual hubs as they do them for a 27 spline.

Is this true? Is that why I got stuck? Surely not:nenau
Any bigwigs like to confirm please:eek:
I've just got a spare set of autos for best, so dont want to have to get emanuels too!:sly

News to me, never done that while in 4 wheel drive when out in the lanes. :nenau

ok well seeing as you asked ....

the auto's engage when forwards if you reverse the dis engage and re engage

the brake rings are a bit like a clutch. they lock into position by friction

so they work in forwards or reverse but they do disengage between

thats why you sometimes get a bang from them (you will know what i mean)

they are good but its pretty crap if you need to keep going forward - reverse - forward rocking the car out of a hole

thats how they often break or your stuck then try to give it welly out before they engage (both wheels)

you'd better show me how to dismantle mine on Friday then Teacher...

I had a strange incident today, could be hub related. I parked up my sloping drive to take off the rear wheel so I engaged low four to use the front wheels as a brake and chocked the wheels as well. after I replaced the wheel I investigated the new radio I have fitted because the long and medium wave bands are unusable because of interferance that is coming from the vehicle bulkhead whether the ign is on or off. this interferancce also affected a small hand held radio but cleared when I disconnected the battery. thats when the incident happened I could hear a very high pitched buzz but could not discover from where it was coming, then I found it stopped when I took out the key and started again when I pushed it in! I decided to have a run around the block, as I set off there was two "bumps" hubs locking or unlocking I suppose, came home and the high pitched alarm had gone. whether this was to tell me something was amiss with the 4x4 I dont know. regards bri

p.s. the radio is still unusable in long and med but the fm is perfect, any Ideas of what is causing this terrible interference

No they don't dissengage, not sure if its ignorance or transfered knowledge from other hubs, cos lots of people seem to think this but ours DO NOT dissengage when you engage reverse unless you are in 2wd.

One day I am going to prove this by engaging and reversing etc and taking the hubs off to show them and taking photos etc to prove it. Lunchtime this sunday when out laning perhaps.....

looking forward to it .... might put my clunking problem to rest .... when im rocking the truck out of a hole.

but i fail to see if the rings are biting together in a forward motion how they do not release for a blink of an eye until the bite on a backward motion when selecting reverse.
many a time ive had 4wd going forward and i change to reverse and i only have 2wd for up to 2 turns of the rear wheels then some clonking from the hubs and then 4wd again

They don't drive on the rings they drive on the gears in the end of the fwh - they get locke din by the difference in rotating speeds/torque etc of the hub/driveshaft/hub carrier and are only dissengaged by differing speeds/torques - difficult to explain - photos needed - one day, when I have the time.
