Push or pull?

I'm looking at buying an electric fan to replace the viscous.
I want to mount it to the rear of the rad so do I need a fan to push or pull or doesn't it really matter?

i think needs to pull air into the car and over the rad, or pulled back through the rad.

if the other way round it would be fighting the air as the car drives forwards.

If it's mounted the engine side of the rad you want a fan that'll pull as Zippy has mentioned:thumb2 if you fit on the bumper side then you'll need a fan that will push the air through the rad:augie

Gonna get one that will pull not push, suck not blow

Gotta get the fan switch too.

Removed the aircon rad nad pipework today so can see how much room there is for winch fitting a bit later on.:thumb2

if you can get a kenlowe fan, the rotation alters by reversing the wires, cos i have one and tried it, not sure about other types of fans though, a mate used a fan from a escort awhile back it had the metal body and all he did was drill and bolt it on, worked a treet and it's cheap. :thumb2

I want to keep the room infront of the rad for a winch, but what you say is true.

Thanks Zippy but thats to cool down the intercooler not the water works.

I have read the fan conversion in the downloads section but that uses 2 fans on the front of the rad and I just want to use one on the rear of the rad.

The standard fan is 16" diameter and I have found one of these on ebay but was wondering whether I actually need one that big?

Also what type of thermostatic switch to use?
There seems to be a capilliary type but I winder if you can get a good seal using them and an electric switch that sits in an adapter spliced into the bottom hose.

Anmyone any experience or advise?

Can't recall thermostat housing setup on these but seen a disco with part of the housing drilled and tapped for a switch/sensor...

Yes seen the x-eng one and similar earlier.

I dont think theres a lot of room to drill and tap the housing on petrol T2's, was quite awkward to get at the housing as it is.
