Howdy all, long story short, Kim's bro is a dj, does a lot of traveling, house arrangements when we move might mean his room is close to ours (which is our call)

For normal decibels how good a sound proofing can you get for a room? It's just for the bass (pay trance) constant boom boom boom.

Don't want to pay 1000s for all the walls to like a mental asylum :lol

Not at all easy, dense rockwool behind 12.5mm plasterboard would be cheapest 100mm thick to have any effect, problem with bass is it makes the building vibrate, did a pub cieling once, specs were double tack and double nail plasterboard then place 150mm dry sand on top followed by 50mm fibre glass with 50mm battens across the joists and not to be fixed then floor on that, did not make a lot of difference, Rick

A lot comes down to how much power his amp is pushing out & what size speakers he's going to use in the house:augie TBH a normal set of hifi speakers will do the job in the house as a pro set up is over kill & the fastest way for you's to get an asbo:doh

I can't see the problem, no speakers required, no external noise, just get him a pair of wireless headphones... Sorted.

When we went on a cruise ship, you couldn't hear anything from next door or from anywhere else for that matter.

The ship was built and fitted with " accommodation pods" ie cabins finished ashore and placed next to each other, so there was no mechanical connection between rooms as each pod was insulated.

So what you need is a room within a room, with the room suspended with no solid points of contact...

Egg boxes and acoustic cones absorb noise at source, but each shape is suitable for a range of frequencies, low bass, will be difficult to remove, but you could start with the speakers not being in contact with any part of the room.

Edit to wind Alex up...
What has been done is people have used a 3.2 tonne tirfor winch to suspend the inner pod between two walls. This will reduce the noise remarkably...

heee heeee ...

If he's using a sub then the bass will be the bugger to kill. Mass is the only cure. Concreted paving slabs and some conveyor belts infront might have some effect.
Modern houses must be awful for noise transmission
I like my 2ft thick walls as even when the boy has "music" on , we're still sane :D

I know a lot of people are saying to use headphones but that won't work:doh as you need to be able to hear the music that is playing & you use a set of headphones to listen to the next track your going to play & to match the beat so the 2 track merge into each other seamlessly:thumbs
I had a neighbour who kindly wok me up once blasting music at 4am by got they regretted it a couple of days later as I was still working as a DJ & had all the gear at home so set it all up with the 18" bass bins facing the wall & turned the 2000w amp to max & spent 2 hours solid mixing the new tracks, they never blasted their stereo again:lol:lol:lol

Yeah pretty much, didn't want to go into huge detail, he's not blasting the music either but has to properly hear it through speakers, he's got an expensive setup :lol

He is currently downstairs In A converted garage (joined to the house) and we cant hear him at night.

Our new fear is due to the lack of available houses we are trying to widen our searches as it's getting difficult now... Our initial plans were to have an outhouse type studio, but now we are also searching for property's we may have dismissed before (ie smaller garden)

So it doesent have to be the best setup as he wont be blasting loud, just something to aid the dampening of his music :lol

Phew... There we go.. :lol

I'd looked at something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-rev...iewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

i only use my set up when neighbours are out as its a good surround sound set in a 28.18 room served by 4 12" 300wrms cerwin varga subs with celestion 66 fronts that as stock go down to 14herts with center and rears fed by a total of 1500w rms.
next door is 1mtr alley away but that complain that there mugs jump on the coffee table so bass goes a long way.hence i am considerate to them.
i used to set up the rave nights on clacton pier when rave was the rage with 30,000 rms, with a lot of 36" jbls, blow the cobwebs away that does.
