It's amazing what you end up with after drinking too much :lol

I'm free all friday morning if I can help with travel, I live where the A1 meets the M62.

The joys of this great club
Thanks, I'm travelling north from Southend Essex on Friday with a mate that lives over the road. So we can just call past and drive a vehicle each back..

Isn't this the engine Rob was planning to drop into his Y61? Thought it was an OM606 not a Y60606 :nenau

What is that Steve? An old C Class?

Engine Transplant wow it's a powerful engine !

Just out of interest if you do the engine transplant don't forget the ECU for the engine (and probably the gearbox if it's an Auto) is coded to the EIS (electronic ignition switch). You will have to have that unit operational to start the engine. You will need to use the Mercedes engine wiring loom. The front engine loom is separate from the rest of the vehicle loom as my memory serves me.

The ECU has a limited number of new keys that can be coded to it after that the ECU will not work. Can't remember the exact number but it's around 8 or 9 in total. If a key is lost you can order a replacement by Chassis number and it will work without coding provided the records on the MB system are up to date they do not come with the blade.
Somehow the ECU knows its a different key.

Just as an aside we had a Taxi driver who ordered a spare key from parts for his S350 to do this you have to take the V5 to the dealership as keys will not be supplied without V5 in your name and photo i/d. We obtained the key but it would not work. After much aggravation from the Taxi driver who had bought it from a used car dealer in Manchester we agreed to put the car through our workshop to code the key though there should not have been any need.

The MB computer diagnostic box was connected and it told us the vehicle was recorded as stolen! We ended up impounding the vehicle on behalf of the Insurance Company and having to call the Police. Taxi Bloke was an innocent purchaser and had to take his Finance Company (with the Dealer) to court as a joint action to get a refund! He bought a VW Phaeton instead!

SAM unit etc

Not sure but suspect the SAM unit will need to be used as well SAM-signal acquisition model - fuse box. Extra complication if Command System is fitted (SAT Nav).

It's all to stop thefts & ringers.

Thanks for the heads up:thumb2
This is the last of the lumps with the mechanical pumps before they went common rail.
With a bit of luck all it will need is a fuel supply, 12v and a throttle cable.
If it needs anything else at least I have the full vehicle.

If its the old mechanical pump you might not have all the complications that came with the common rail engine that they fitted to the last year or so of production on that body shape.
Not familiar with the ECU / EIS set up on the older models might just be transponder based for starting & alarm.

This one's a 1997 not the last in production.
So hopefully not to many issues..

I may be picking your brains in the near future....

Good choice mate, can't wait to do mine :D
Still got stuff to finish on the Black Pearl but the OM606 is the way forward.
Get to it :naughty
