The chassis looks solid

Front is remarkably rot free, Almost like new. Rear will need work, But not too bad.

Found sand in the interior which might mean it was used for boat launches at one point? Could be building sand though.

This evenings work + new tools.

Had to cut this panel out to be able to cut the rot out, Will weld it back in after.

Jealous :sly Is that the bit of floor you warned me about ?
Good work mate
I'm on the last quarter on BP welding now

Id be happy to come have a look in the flesh if we get chance in june:D

Great thread bud, loving seeing all you're doing - makes me wish more than ever that I could bloody weld! :doh

Like Steve, I'd love to see it in the flesh if we get a chance.

No, I took a pic (below). Basicly the outside looks rusty which is just surface rust but it's the seam. Looks like water etc can get in and just sit there. It's seam sealed from the inside.

Took the fuel tank off last week, In the end I decided it was rear was too gone and too much work to mod into a pickup. So decided to go back to my original idea of a trayback.

Got started on it today after the rear body mount bolts kept spinning. Borrowed my mates plasma cutter to tackle that! It came in handy for some of the other cuts needed on the arch area.

Access cutting to get into the top inner arch:

No going back now!

Not the final clean cut, You can see the black marker where I will have my final cut? Maybe a few cms toward the front of the car if I want a nice curved edge.

:eek:wtf theres nowt left of it:eek:

is this going to be a road going moter eventually? or just a off road toy?

Omg fez that took some balls to commit to cutting back off. Looking forward to watching this develop

Some progress over the last few days and today, Mainly making sure the back end is cut square ready for the back. Also how I will redo the rotten arch area.

Part of the frame for the back support, also adds support to the lower part while I cut away sections.

Inside:

Slow progress right now, Finding it hard to dedicate time to it. As it stands today, Major surgery on the rear body mounts/area. Starting on the passenger side, will start on the drivers side this week.

Nice job your doing there Fez:thumb2. Great bit of welding.

Looking great:thumbs somehow i've missed your last few updates on the build:doh How are you planning of finishing the rear of the cab sheet steel or you going to cut off the C pillars & weld them onto the front part of the cab & use the old back door

Will just be sheet steel, Will put a small window in the back too.

Bloody hell, in depth project for sure, keep at it and keep posting those pics :naughty

Few hours on it today, Just got to panel it off. Slowly getting to where I can weld the back panel on.

You have done some great welding on this Fez :). I've got a way to go before my welding skill reaches your level mate.
Can't wait to see the finished truck

I don't know ha, There was some nasty confined spaces so parts the welding is a little sloppy.
