An inkjet printer will generally provide a better quality of print if you're looking to print out photos for example.
However, a cheap laser printer would be more reliable and in the long run cost less on consumables. The toner cartridges can be pricey, but offer far more prints per cartridge than inkjet so the costs end up cheaper per page.
I had one for my own business, a Samsung all in one colour laser copier, scanner fax etc. It also had Wifi connections and could be added to a hardwired network. Cost me £140 new.
I recently picked up an HP colour laserjet which had also did scan, fax, copy etc and sat on a wired network for free on freecycle. Worth looking there if you have time to wait for one to come up, or place an advert asking of anyone's disposing of one. Sadly mine's developed an issue, not sure if it's the drum or just out of Toner. Don't have space to store it so was gonna chuck it out. If you wanted a freebie and are passing Bristol you're welcome to it.
Also, many of the older lasers will now have ready supplies of compatible toners on eBay which will help keep your costs down, although with only a few prints a month you migh want to stick to the reliability of the originals.
