power problems

i have just started to have problems with my terrano II se 2002 i am going to explain so i can maybe get some help

when i start it and put my foot on the accelerator the revs only go up to 2000 or so and there is no power at all but it ticks over no problem so what i have to do is turn the engine off and them re start and everything is then ok ?? i have just pulled my 1.5 ton caravan 268 miles to cornwall with out it missing a beat so whats going on ? i have taken it to nissan and they tell me that there may be low turbo pressure and i have heard talk about air flow sensor ?/ i am very confused nissan want 2 and a half grand for a new turbo i dont hav this amount of cash, but if the turbo had gone howcome it went so good down to cornwall anyone got any ideas?/ the air mass thingy sounds cheaper hope its this that has gone

MAF sensor.

What I did was......................

Take out the air flow sensor, its on the air inlet to the turbo thingy,
spray it with a little bit of WD40 or switch cleaner gently wipe clean with a cloth to avoid scratching the surface, put it back in and give it a try.

Worked for me.............

It might be worthwhile cleaning the "banjo filter" & putting on a new fuel filter :thumbs

Mine wouldn't rev over 2 grand...

Cleaned the little filter & changed the fuel filter,job done :thumbs

Cant be the turbo, it wouldn’t put itself right after turning off and restarting,

Is it a 2.7dti engine?

thanks for the help i have no problem paying the £10 when i get home

I am down in cornwall still till 8/8 each morning i start it it will not rev over 1000 switch off restart and bingo all ok and then st seems that when the engine is warm and i have driven it for a few miles all is ok but if i leave it for a few hours back to square 1 i think i will try and get back to Brum (home) before i mess, i dont want to dump the car it town my van great and its very stable to, glad to hear its not the turbo, cant load the pics yet because i am using one of those dongle things but thanks for your help

Zutman, please post details of the ripoff merchant Nissan dealer, who tried to skin you of £2.5k.
Thats definatley one to avoid.

too right, what sort of turbo does he think you have,:thumbs 2.5k, see you was a holiday maker and thought he would have a bit of your dosh, so name and shame the dealer mate.:sly
