AT light

Hi Bobbee

Does the orange light on the switch flash and carry out a diagnostic check then go out when the ignition is first turned on?

Unless gunning the engine so it goes into power mode I have no lights on during normal driving.

regards Paulp

no. when i turn engine on only the orange power light flashes once and goes off. it stays on if i select power mode but hold light never comes on

AT light

Hi Bobbee

Mine does exactly the same.

The one flash at start up indicates that no faults are present.
The hold mode does not light up or flash.

When i press the switch to hold mode it will light up green, but unless pressed it does not light up.

regards Paulp

problem is the hold mode never lights up even if pressed

Does pressing the switch hold the gear ?

Try climbing a steep or long hill twice

once not in hold and once with hold button pressed.

in hold mode it should stay in the gear that the truck is in, this is useful when towing so that when more gas is needed it des not change gear.

Whereabouts are you because maybe the switch can be swapped with a known non faultly switch. it could be a seperate bulb for the hold part of the switch (just guessing now sorry)

hope you get it sorted

power switch

sorry not been on. had the lurgy. anyway, gearbox now seems to change up qiickly and if i stamp on gas for power it takes ages to change down so acceleration is poor, and smokey.cruising at 70 or 80 is ok but top speed is 80, was not like it 6 months ago! behind the air filter by bulkhead is a pressure activated plunger working off the turbo, the plunger wasnt working so i unbolted the feed line and it was blocked, cleaned it out put it back and adjusted the threaded bar so that it actuated the butterfly valve as soon as pressure is in the line.dont know what this valve is,what the right adjustment is on it,or if it is working at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry to be long winded.any ideas what it is? maybe part of power problem. by the way, my hold green light never comes on.even with button pressed on

can you post a pic of the part you mention.... and not the switch lol

I think the "Butterfly" you are talking about is on the turbo system .... by adjusting the threaded link between the butterfly and the vacuum unit you either increase or decrease turbo boost.
On the Mistral, if you drive it with the A/T switch in economy or hold position, you do not have the "Kickdown" facility .
I would check the fuel filters, especially the one in the banjo connection (see downloads).
Have you blanked off the EGR ? Again see downloads regarding fuel/performance.

hi lads. thanks for replies. ive done the banjo bolt filter and the fuel filter(not a nissan one. off e.bay. had lots of probs with that as they changed the bottom drain washer and its too thin so not sealing(note) air leaks galore! ) ill get a photo sorted on the butterfly thing asp so someone can call me thick and tell me what it is

Im assuming this 'hold' thing is only a function of the Mistral autobox cos I've never heard of it......whats it do?

wing nut threaded thing

Hi Lacroupade

It is a Mistral autobox thing

Used when climbing a steep or long hill.

In hold mode it should stay in the gear that the truck is in, this is useful when towing so that when more gas is needed it does not change gear.

coupled with the overdrive switch - want the moon moved left a bit.
not quite but you get the drift.

it also has power mode which apprently changes how the gearbox responds to the power. (when in auto mode it does this.....ere ... automatically) sorry to state the obvious.:nenau

hence a £1000 plus at least for a rebuild when they go pop :eek:

hope this helps paulp

Interesting So has it not got 1st/2nd gear selection on the stick?

On the T2 auto you have switchable o/d, 1st/2nd gear select (if you want to hold it in gear, or even drive off as if you have a manual box), plus the Normal/Sport/Snow switch...Normal is obvious, Sport holds it in gear for a few hundred extra revs before changing up, and Snow omits 1st gear, pulls off in 2nd.

If you select Sport and switch off o/d you can practically scorch off down the road LOL

I paid £1500 to get mine sorted when it broke and that was the best price I could find :(
