HI all

I have just become a nissan owner for the first time! I recently accquired a 1998 nissan Terrano 2.7 TD. Tropical Green or Kermit Green as I like to think of it,
Anyway I have this niggling problem, When driving there is a lose of power, slow revs, switch the engine off and restart, its fine again. This can happen at any time with no regular pattern.
When I got the vehicle there was hardly any fuel in it and it needed 72 litres to fill it. could this have some bearing on the problem.
Would appreciate any comments

Thanks
Mike P

Firstly, hello and welcome to the club.

Sounds like fuel starvation, could be main fuel filter blocked by debris sucked up from empty tank or air in fuel pipes / filter. Presume your fuel filter water warning light isn't on , you would have noticed it.
Try having a good push on the plunger on top of the filter, if it goes down easily you need to pump it vigourously until it goes "solid". Then you know you have filter full of fuel, not air. Sometimes the union at the base of the filter housing becomes loose and admits air; it also leaks fuel so you can feel around under there and if your fingers come out wet; tighten the union.
If you still have problems after that, look at the banjo union on the fuel pipe near the fuel injector pump unit. Some of these banjo unions contain a mesh filter which can get blocked and cause your problem. If you don't have a mesh filter in there don't worry; not all models have them.
The steps above are just for starters but they are common causes of the symptoms you describe.
There are lots of helpful members in this club and I'm sure you'll get much more help' just keep asking. Good luck.
