Started it this morn and it chugged and missed. Its not pressurising coolant or losing any, drove from Lincoln to stoke yesterday flat strap, didn't miss a beat so I'm thinking cant be headgasket, and it storms upto over 100 indicated (on a private test track ;) )

Just warming it up on the drive to drop the oil and on idle when u rev it it missfires and a large plume of white/greyish smoke comes out and it misses a bit then clears, revs freely. and will blip nicely. then if u leave it again same, splutter, plume and clears smoke smells like diesel

Its not good on fuel from what i can tell, used £30 coming back from lincoln to stoke then stafford, then back to stoke, so thats gotta be 100 miles ish :nenau

I'm thinking dribbling injector ? not sure though at all obviously, so was wondering if there is a common cause ?

it's normal for it to stutter when revving it when not moving.
think it does it about 2-3k revs

Head gaskets would usually affect the oil/water - try running with the rad cap off to see if the water bubbles - always a sign of failing gasket.

Equally it could be the usual suspects of filters and/or air getting in where it shouldn't.

Lack of burn on startup/misfire - could it be a dodgy glow plug? How easily does she fire up from cold?

Could your return flow of fuel to the tank from the pump be off? I think the usual issue is with it returning too much causing fuel starvation issues but maybe it could go the other way?

This thread http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11236 covers the value that regulates the fuel pressures.

That lot should keep you busy!!

Hopefully someone wiser will give slightly more targeted advice, hope you get it solved.

if ur pushing pass 3k and going fast that sounds bout right how many litre is 30 quid:nenau

30 quid gets just over 20L these days, maybe one day I'll fill her up from empty!

£84 for 60 litres is my usual weekly use. Bit of motorway, bit of town but the majority fast country roads and i get 400 miles from that so at a guess £30 for a hundred miles is not very good, probably in need of a good service

Ok done fuel filter. Put a tin of diesel fuel/injector treatment neat in filter. It's sound now, still stuttery when cold but fine when warm :)
