I'm just wanting to see if this has happend to you too, right, I've been selling stuff on eBay for about a month now, made about , £100 in 4x4 parts, but now mum's PayPal account has had over £40 pulled out of it by "eBay Europe sarl", just want to know if this has happened to you as well, as I only thought eBay/paypal just taken a certain percentage of the money from a item you've sold, eg, I sell a speaker for £5, eBay/paypal will take £0.90p, it seems that they charge you for a insertion fee, even If you don't sell an item, you will still get charged for an item that's listed but not selling. Has This ever happened to you? They also say they will take about £21 off at the end of this month, could this be a scam or someone's hacked into it?

Ebay fees are about 10% of the selling price + listing charge

Paypal charge about 3.4% + 20p on payments receivied

Read their charges...

£40 sounds alot for £100 worth of selling, are you sure your numbers are right? Have you been listing loads of stuff that has not sold?

Not a scam

I've got a few things that havnt sold, but nothing out of the ordinary.

your numbers don't add up then. You can see how much you have sold in the seller summary in ebay.

You can also see when you payed ebay fees before the £40 fee.

As ebay take it out in lump sums every month or so and paypal take it from the payment you receive automaticly.

not sure about the £40 or the £21, but they do charge for items that don't sell unless its on an offer i.e. 'no insertion fees if not sold' or 'free insertion fee's this weekend' check the details on the £40 and see if it give you a clue where its went, and quiz the £21 never paid fee's that high

Anything that doesnt sell relist it straight away then it's free till sold :thumb2
Also put yourphone number on listings so you have a chance of closing the deal outside paypal . saves on commision :thumbs

Aye, it's high for what's been sold, it also says its cost me £2.70 for inserting a picture, but when I was listing items, it only said £0.70p for the whole listing, that's keeping everything basic, I'll copy up what eBay are saying for you all tomorrow, then you'll see what I mean:thumbs because, there's no way the fee should be 40, the way it is now, there taking half my money, I'm actually.making a loss:(

I've been relisting things straight away, as I get notified when things end

go to the my eBay section after logging in and click on account. from there you can see your balance and a full breakdown of your fees. Also ive noticed you have an eBay shop. there are monthly fees for this even if you do not sell anything.
hope this helps:thumbs

Cheers, so the only way to stop the fees is to close my shop and stop selling things on ebay:rolleyes:

you dont need the shop feature unless your selling hundreds of items a week. if your selling small amounts of stuff you can increase your profits by using normal listings especially at weekends as its free to list most weekends.
the only thing your achieving at the moment is making money for eBay and not for yourself

Ok, I'll have a look tomorrow as I can't be bothered going onto the computer:augie

Thanks for the help:bow

Just looked on your ebay shop
You've got em all on buy it nows :doh There's a bunch of fees to start with:eek:
Some are collect only, some have post some dont ?
Descriptions are minimalist at best
Start them at 99p do loads of pics, good descriptions , include post etc

Ok cheers, yeah,Im not to good in this game:doh

I'll actually modify them just now when I remember, thing Is, will I not make a loss if I list a light unit at 99p and someone bits at a pound?, that's my fear.

doesn't look to me your using ebay shop feature.

Don't worry about auctions too much as I think auction and buy it now fees are the same, In my opinion the stuff your selling is ok as a buy it now but if they price is too high no one will buy. It's knowing what to sell them for is a fine art.

also use the basic listing, no extra pics etc, if you need extra pics upload them to photobucket and link the html code into ebay.

good title, description and good price on postage is key.

Heavy items can be sent cheap via www.interparcel.com

I've been on ebay for 7 years now, Started it when I was like 16. Now making a few quid, Nothing huge but helps with beer tokens: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/fez_2005
