Well the old girl has broken down for the second time in 22 years. My Y 60 broke down a couple weeks back and I had to get the bro in law to tow it to his workshop. Anyway it was struggling to get fuel so replaced fuel filter ( only couple months old ). Checked all fuel hoses for leak/ poor connection but didn't find anything but she seems OK afterwards. Ran OK for a few days (approx 40miles of use) but now same thing. Winds over before starting then won't run properly and cuts out. Not sure what to check next tbh.

Fuel air in pipes issues perhaps ?

Does your vehicle have a pump on top of the fuel filter housing and if it does is it solid when you try and pump it some more ?

It should be rock hard if there is no air in the fuel line.
Just my pennyworth.

I'd love to be able to offer wise words but I'm really not familar with those blocks :(

Certainly sounds fuel related though, Macbethiel's post above is certainly a good place to start, are these pump in the tank jobbies or Injector Pumps driven from the engine like the Terrano?

When it originally broke down we could press the pump on top of fuel filter which kept her running hence checking for air getting in system so will have to take another look at her.

I did some work on a patrol last year and sure I remember a banjo filter on the pump, also does it have a filter in the tank T2's do not but do not know about yours, Rick

Fiuel Filter Seal could it be a dodgy new unt ?

It's a long shot but if your last fix worked for 40 miles and you replaced the fuel filter what make filter did you use as it might not be sealing as it should certainly sound like air in the system ?

Hope it wasn't a Boschi from Milner Off Road or some such unknown manufacturer I would only fit either genuine Nissan or Mahle fuel filters to avoid problems.

if you pump the filter till it goes hard and it then runs then dies then you pump again then it does the same it must be air getting in.
i had a bx that had the same symptoms many years ago and did everything to find and cure it,i did in the end and it was ip main shaft seel letting air in,new seel and all was well.hope yours is not the same.

Didn'y you do an IP swap on one of your Terry's as well Panelbeater for something similar? Possibly on your blue truck :nenau

Personally i would check fuel lines first, they can have tiny rust holes in them that you cant see but are slightly damp around the hole.. very hard to spot, i replaced the lines on one of my old trucks and it cured it.. also the pump on the filter housings dont last forever and do become a problem not holding pressure.

Have you tried undoing the drain on the bottom of filter and seeing if you have water in it.

Good thinking Daemo. Just checked underneath and it appears that's where my problem is. One f the fuel lines looks rotten and wet as well as top of fuel tank. So looks like its fairly simple fix but obviously a ramp job as will need to drop fuel tank.

Yes. First thing I did but also replaced filter too :)

Have you checked to see if theres an inspection panel in the boot floor like on terranos?

No need to drop the tank that way

There is an inspection panel but the fuel line has rotted across top of chassis rail so easier to work on with tank out of way

Quick update. Replaced the rotten section of fuel line today and she fired up no problem..........For a minute or so then died again. Seems that air is getting in still but not sure where.

Does the trol have two lines like the terrano?

My terrano ran better when the return line was replaced. Also replaced all the pipe from tank to engine bay.

Has it dragged a load of muck into the fuel filter and blocked it, might be worth replacing the filter.

Yes two lines one is smaller than the other and is also rusty so looks like I may have to replace that too. all lines are good from engine to just in front of rear axle so at least I should get away with replacing bad section.

Does anyone know what size the return line is as its smaller than one I replaced today?. I'm thinking its 8mm but not sure

old thread come back.
sorry bansheeeee i did not reply to your post.
i had to replace ip on green t2 and that was run only on derv, took me a long time to finally find fault.even a nissan dealer at 60 an hour only told me its a fuel problem and i said so 60 lighter and you say the same as i think.

spinna are you still getting the problem,if so rig up a totally separate fuel can and connect rubber fuel pipe to inlet to ip on bulkhead at fuel filter so clean fuel straight into ip line.
gravity feed so it will self bleed at ip.
if it turns over and starts and runs and revs it must be your fuel line/inline filter somewhere, watch the fuel in the higher tank and keep topped up as the spare fuel will still go to tank via return pipe.work backwards to tank,if you have a air supply you can blow back into tank and here bubbles with tank cap off,you also might find the leak.
