This is a 2 part fix, part 1 is the pollen filter which I no has been covered before but as I was doing it anyway took some pics just for you lot.

Since I got my mav the air flow has been poor at the vents, new I had a leak down by the main blower so finally got around to fixing it ready for the winter.

Part 1 remove pollen filter
remove 2 screws at the bottom of glove box, jiggle the top & remove,
now remove the top small cover to the left of glove box 2 screws.
remove the 3 screws from the cross bar:

then remove the screw holding the slide cover, pull downthecover to reveal the filter:

Part 2 The main problem which im sure many of you suffer on older cars?
the main leak of air was between the blower & the filter housing, there should be a nice firm sponge filling the space, mine had rotted felt like it had melted too, the same had happened where the blower draws air through the bulkhead.

Remove sill cover & lower side panel, now the bracket that the cross rail fixes too, disconnect the electrics, & move out of the way, disconnect the manual cable for inside/outside air flow.
remove 2 nuts below blower, 1 bolt from top, remove 3 nuts from filter housing section just to give some needed play.
now you have to try & pull the top of the blower forward a bit then pull up from the bottom & jiggle about to remove the blower(it wasn't easy)

here you can see the hole on the filter housing where the sponge should be

2 points, first i broke the top bracket on the blower it has some kind of lug which you cant see, but no worries as its not needed anyway :sly
second you want to make sure what you use to glue the sponge on with is quick drying or you will have to wait, as you have to slide the blower against the sponge, i use some fibre resin works every time :thumbs

Clever and a good write up of your experience. Just out of interest the actual motor and fan assembly looks as though it just unscrews and drops straight down out of the housing that you removed. Do I need to remove anything first or will that just unscrew and drop out?

I an not quite sure on that, but you can always try first, I think I saw 3 screws holding the motor on?

Thanks Rick, just trying to help out with my very limited knowledge on these motors.
