poly bushes

Hi guys

has anyone changed the bushes on the upper and lower rear suspension links. mine is the PR50 chassis i have looked at milner off road and they qoute me £9.00 each for (Poly) and say i need 8 off all the same size. however after talking to nissan who want 18.00+ vat they say they are two different sizes. milner also call them trailing arm bushes are these the same?

If you will take some advice... if you are going to tow anything, i.e caravan the poly bushes wont last, i know, ive been there.. when towing they lasted about 3 months. then when normal driving lasted about 8 months, and i only did about 4000 miles a year if that... was not at all happy with them..

Poly bushes are very soft compared with originals... hence why they ware out so quick, they crush and split...

The bushes on the bottom drag links (trailing arms) are the ones that fail. (4 off bushes) the top ones are unlikely to go as all the kick is forced through the drag links...

If i were to replace the bushes again i would go straight for genuine nissan ones, they might be dearer to shell out on, and harder to fit, but they last thousands of miles not just for a day out in the caravan...

in fact i may still have a couple that i did not use. i bought several spares in the end as they wore out so quick.

if you go for genuine super pro ploy bushes, they come in three different densities. the softer ones obviously offer a better ride, and the harder ones compromising on comfort for road 'handling'. i have many people tell me that super pros are the dogs, many from personal experience. they out last many other bushes, however they do come at a cost, TBR sell a full super pro kit for £175, but like i said that does do every suspension bush

I'll second that if poly bushes are failing they are the wrong grade.

When I was building rally cars (for a living) we fitted poly bushes and they out lasted the originals massively and provided a taughter car too.

At £8.00 per bush I think I'll look a bit further into rose jointing my 4 links and panard rod.

Thanks still not sure about the size issue. for reference the nissan part numbers are upper link 550460W001 and lower 550450W023 but as i said this is for the PR 50 Chasis on the R3m the main reason iam changing them is that my truck is, as our colonial cousins call it, fishtailing which means the rear swings from side to side at speeds of over 60. there is loads of info on it on the US pathfinder forums and the solution would appear to be to change the bushes. So i think i will go for the nissan ones at least i know they will fit and as i tow a van as well i dont want them breaking up in just a few miles.

I bought a full set and they are all the same size, when fitted they expand as you tighten the bolts up... the pan hard rod bushes did not need replacing, And yes the poly bushes i had were a little soft.. but the experience did put me off...

I have still got the panhard bushes, if anyone wants them... may have some other bits as well...

Is that the Milners ones?

Sounds like whichever ones you got aren't really the right size, they should be a snug fit as the go in, some proprietary brands I've used in the past supply a small sachet of white grease with them to assist with assembly.

Assuming it was Milners I am beginning to have my concerns about them, their prices may be good but, their steering idlers need redrilling to fit, the bushes they supply aren't quite right, sounds like the are just supplying stuff from other models that will do at a push but really aren't the correct parts.

yep, was milners.. they told me they did not make them, but said they would make me some if i could give them the sizes so i emailed them scale drawings etc and they made a set for me...

but they did have a snug fit, just were not tough enough...

oh dear thats a bit of a worry as i changed my mind after talking to the man at milners and have ordered some of theirs, as he promised me faithfully that they were the correct fit.

Maybe they are different now... but you can be the guiness pig, and if yours turn out the same, then you can advise others,,, hopefully they have changed the materials etc... good luck!!

12 months... and fitted them myself, old ones were nissan ones and so worn they fell out, no press required..... fitting the new ones was dead easy...

I have just fitted a poly one from milner on my Mav it was certainly not soft in fact it felt firmer than the nissan rubber ones which are different part numbers top and bottom but are exactly the same part how do I know. I fitted 2 top and 2 bottom last year on the daughters mav and what a pig off a job it was which is why I got the one from milners to fit the bush takes minuets not hours like the nissan ones and you dont need a press for the poly ones.
