Hi all, Yesterday I decided to remove the clutch damper pipe which runs to the rear or the terrano but since I've done that I get a rumbling noise when I push the cluch in and the noise is worse the faster the engine is turning over. If I push the pedal all the way down and rev the car it's fine it's when the pedal is half way up ?? The car is driving fine. Notice it more when driving and the engine is turning over faster as I push the clutch in. It's a terrano 2.7 lwb 2004. :nenau. Thanks again.

I can only imagine that your old damper pipe had some air in it that reduced the slave cylinder travel, now that has gone the slave is probably travelling further than it had for a long time, Rick

Thanks mate but it sounds like a bearing noise, is it possible that the release bearing has got more load on it and is on its way out ??

Sorry I did not fully explain, having pushed the release bearing further than it has been for a while it is likely that it has disturbed some debris, this could be your noise, but to be honest I would not worry about it, the bearing is in constant contact with the clutch so spins all the time, if it gets noisy all the time then that will be the time to be concerned, Rick

Sounds like a clutch release bearing.Having experienced noises like that before on my old truck..

Cheers Gav

Thanks mate, like I said its only when the clutch pedal is half way down and is much worse when you slip the clutch, but other than that its driving ok. :thumbs

I've had the same noise since I blanked the pipe. I guess that's what the pipe is for although how and why is beyond me.
Peter

If that's the case mate I'm a bit peed off that people on here are advising to remove it :nenau

the so called "damper pipe" can serve no useful purpose if it is full of fluid, fluid is not compressible, that is why we use it, if on the other hand it is supposed to have some air in it, how can that be achieved, given that there is only one bleed point on the end of the pipe, I cannot imagine a simple way of getting X amount of air, also many T2's were never fitted with said pipe from new, Rick

I just wish I had left it alone now, the only reason I removed it was because I was sometimes getting clutch slip when I put my foot down in 3rd, 4th and 5th but only started to do that after I had it remapped. Any ideas on that mate as it had a new clutch only 1 year ago by the last owner. Thanks. John

flexi hose or slave cyl could be the problem, get under and you should be able to push the arm toward the cyl by hand, if not slack the bleed nipple if you can move it now then flexi hose, if not the cylinder too tight/seized, Rick

Yeah I checked that and it moves free in and out, :nenau

OK next test, HB on hard (if it works) select 5th floor the loud pedal drop the clutch, engine should stall within 5 seconds if not then the clutch has gone, if the rev's drop to around 1000 but then starts to build again then it has almost gone, Rick
