Having used 4wd sucessfully yesterday and today, just had to nip to b&q our road shocking so put it in 4wd and big vibrations and engine trying to stall, re engaged 2wd and reversed and problem stopped!! On way back just wheel spinning in car park so back in 4wd and was ok for about 20 yards and vibration started again.. all ideas welcome as got to get to my daughters horse field in morning and theres no way it will do it in 2wd!!!!
Cheers Rich..

ooops Mav swb 2.7td 1994 m regd if that helps..lol

hi rich, check the front propsharft u/j's, i cant see why the engine was trying to stall though. :nenau:thumbs

Was the road actualy slippy? Been on some today that were proper white but there was plenty of grip:augie

Hi Tezzer and extreme, what exactly will i be looking for on drive / propshafts.
I had a problem with my nissan vanette van earlier in the year with the prop and the uj was shot on it easy fix new shaft four bolts and away..not sure it would be quite so easy on the Mav!!
Where would i be looking for the uj's on the front?
Is perfect in 2wd.
Cheers Rich..

Yep the roads were very slippy, just wheelspinning in 2wd and it was in straight line and cornering!!

just give the front drive shafts a god tug and wiggle. you will know if one is shot

Hi all had Mav on ramps today..fooking freezing but found no obvious problem!! no movement in front shafts or anything like that, no leaks or anything to give an idea, and no vibration at all, all day driving around country roads in 4wd!! So christ knows what was happening last night, although I did engage and dissengage 4wd this morning a couple of times ..wondering whether the hubs were not freed off properly..anyway thanks to all who offered ideas and think I deffo will get it checked out properly when it gets a bit better to lie under wagon..lol
Cheers Rich..

Biggest problem with 4wd is it doesn't get used. Then all of a sudden people start using it and it moans cos it's all stiff, a bit like me when I wake up or was that too much info:lol

Be aware if the tread depth is different, between front and rear axles or different tyres or different circumference, the worse the wind up will be.
Mine are about the same and there is very little wind up, except when turning into the drive and the vehicle nearly stops. So only use 4x4 on slipery surfaces.
