anyone ever owned one?

im tempted to buy Heidi one as she is car less at the moment. shes ok driving the MAV, but struggles with the pwoer steering (as in its too light for her!) and parking. shes only little, so the MAV is a touch too big for her. shes not complaining or anything, shes great liek that, so i had a look on autotrader and found a nice little 106 for £500, mot till march 2011, and tax till oct, a trade in. looks well looked after, dirty engien bay but dry, front exhaust on the manifold looks brown/rusty but solid...

i have driven one before, and i like them, but know nothing about them mechanically. ist got 97,000 miles on it, but looks good for it...

what do you know?

i never knew they made a nice Peugeot, :nenau french rubbish, how a bout a vauxhall or Nissan, much better than a peugeot clivvy, :thumb2

mmm..maybe, but whats the alternative? Corsa?? no way, they are even worse, and the only alternative Nissan, is a Micra!

my requirements are:

£cheap
£cheap to fix
small (very small) but big enough to fit a bale of hay in the back

so were talking Renault 5 size is what we want...!! its tricky for the amount i want to spend, but it is possible...

well the micra sounds OK, should be able to get a bale in the boot or on the roof, what's the next size Nissan? is it almara, there not a bad size. :thumb2:doh

or a ford fiesta, cheap tax, cheap to repair etc.

My 406 estate 1.8 petrol was one of the most versatile, well made and comfortable cars I've ever owned. I'd still have it now if was heavy enough to tow my caravan.

I don't see why a 106 wouldn't be a good motor.

We had a 205 1.1 in the family that I used to drive. Was ok for a small car but lots of niggles from new. Personally i would look around for a micra or polo.

make sure its had a cam belt done, mate at work doing cam and water pump and pump seized in and had to remove engine to fix it, we shall refit engine on sat so be carefull,
fiestas aint bad as we work on fords all day and fairly easy and cheap to fix,
just my thoughts.

Being an AA patrolman the 106's are shit stay well clear. Almera's suffer with timing belt stretching at a cost of £700+ for replacement. Go for the micra there bullet proof and I don't go out to many as they never break down only for battery problems and flooding. The micro you want goes up to an 02 reg and the 1.0 comes with 5 speed box and can do 90 mph wonderful reliable cars and that why you drive a mav.

perfect bit of info there mate, im in the AA and trust the words of the patrol men 100%

i have called the AA a few times over the years, and always manage a chin wag, when I had a clio many many moons ago, clutch went, AA chap said "get a Nissan or a Mazda, i never get calls for them breaking down", shortly afterwards I got a 323f then an MX6, very reliable, especially the 323f, so ill take your advice and look up the Micras as Heidi quite fancied one...!
just one question about the Micra, what thjey liek up hill with a bit of luggage in the back? imagin heidi going 10 miles to another town and fitting a horse bale of hay in the back, the drive home includes a long, steep hill towards Halifax...will it go, or should we get the 1.4 Micra?
