Petrol radiator in diesel is it a problem ?

Hi guys my mates maverick has the radiator round the wrong way is that a problem ?

It's already fitted too the truck at least we think its of a petrol as the top rad hose is on the right handside of the rad and it goes into the passenger side of the thermostat effectively the rad pipes go to the opposite of where they should go

Will that cause any probs with cooling or over heating ?

No it should be fine as long as it's big enough for proper cooling. Just has a bit more pipe work is all:thumb2

Will it affect the heater in winter with regards to warming up ?
So the rad now cools bottom to top instead of top to bottom ?

sorry missunderstood, I just thought it was side to side wrong not upside down. I dont think thats good then

It looks like a shogun rad in there and the top rad outlet goes to the thermostat connection by the alternator and the bottom rad outlet goes to the thermostat connection by the power steering pump

Sorry guys for the dodgy description but I'm sure it won't do it's job as a rad correctly this way round ???

if the rad is upside down or other it will make little difference as long as the hot goes in at the real top and cold is drawn from the real bottom, Rick

The problem will be in the expansion and contraction. It will tend to naturally airlock if the rad cap is not on the top. Any air drawn in or created inside will collect in the top (bottom) of the radiator and ultimately create an airlock. Who would even think of such a thing? :nenau Or fill it for start up--is the drain sticking up then?

I think youve all misunderstood the problem here its not that the rad is upside down its that the rad is the wrong hand the fittings on the petrol are opposite to the diesel

so the backside of the rad, 'side closest to the viscous' is at the front where the air hits, the rad had basically been rotated 180 degrees ??

i read it as the hoses now connect on the opposite sides so the flow thorugh the rad is reversed, I beleive the rad is the right way up and the right way round :doh

My 96 terrano 2.7 td has a 2.4 petrol radiator fitted has had for past 2 years.had to extend bottom hose across other than that no problems

it should actually last longer as diesel engines dont run as hot:thumb2
