reckon most of us, like most of UK/Europe have adopted the turbo diesel
generally for its better fuel economy due to high cost of fuel here say
compared to the States.

So if cost wasnt an option, would you like a nice throbbing petrol engine
in your truck, as strikes me our yank cousins only have gasoline in their
suvs even upto size of patrol.

in my head i know a good td will offer better torque and make it better
for tugging and off roading, and a modern diesel can be chipped to
exceed an equivalent naturally aspirated petrol.

BUT in my heart, well just love to hear a decent v8 or straight 6 petrol
motor, and hey could always bolt on a supercharger for more traffic
light fun....

guessing the terranos would come alive with a v6 around 3.0, perhaps
4.0 would be an option stateside after all latest pathy had a 4.0 v6
option here at first, til dropped as no one bought 'em.

the troll, will gather theres a 4.8 straight 6, imagine a chevy small block
350/5.7 v8 would shoe horn in too.

come on what would you do?

PeTroll CC's n Cylinders. That's my vote!
If cost is not the deciding factor.
Why stop at 6 or 8 when you can have 12!!

go for it, if it fits, and if it doesnt redesign the grill like solihull were
remoured to be fitting the jag v12s in the rangeys a while back.

well, i like diesel tbh, but i have a Mazda V6, and if were talking low down torque, this car has bags of it from less than 1000 rpm right up to 8k. economy wise they work out about the same but on a run, i suspect the V6 is slightly better. I love the responsiveness of petrol, but i also love the clatter of a diesel, theres something very mechanical about it if you understand me!

so, if money was no option, id most likely have a V8 in there, like the V8 landrovers!

with 9 points on me licence :doh I think I'd settle for a chunky slow diesel any day!!

Preferably fitted into a Landy with steel girders welded to all four sides so anyone who pi55e5 me off on the road just gets wiped out, Mad Max style.

My all-time fantasy was a decent road legal sand rail - anyone remember the old UVA? sigh...

Mind you, with all thats going on at the moment the Z4 and T2 are parked up in Wales and Im spanking up and down the M4 in a £500 Nissan Micra K11.....its only a pi55y little 1.0 litre 16v but what a hoot to drive when you keep the revs up!! I love it.

I like to own one of those 6.1L Grand Cherokees. If I had a lot more money, but I don't think I ever will :(

If you want to go through deep water, then I guess the Diesel is best.

Less risk of explosive fuel if you roll it.

BUT in temperatures of -30 C then I would have thought petrol would be better due to waxing of diesel, but even additives would prevent that, ask those in Iceland.

I read a report at the time I got the Mav, it was sent to one of the poles ( North or South not to a guy born in Poland) and temperatures were lower than -30 C, the only problem they had were that the handles became brittle and broke off.

So watch yours doesn't break off when it gets cold

Having owned both petrol and diesel 4x4s... i'd say it totally depends on what you are going to use it for.
Daily runabout... i'd say petrol. Less sluggish at junctions, smoother, quieter, in fact just a better drive all round PLUS my Mav did 110 on the motorway :D
But if your towing or using off-road a lot i'd say go diesel

must say one of my lottery motors would be a dodge ram with the 8.0V10
gasoline! motor, they even did one that had the Viper mill in there, oh
yes 500hp out of the box, room for a blower/supercharger, nos?? sky
the limit, recokon could be pushing 1000hp by then.

dont tink dodge offer the 8.0 these days, though there is a 6.0 L6 or so
Cummins TDi that could probably be wound up to about same....

Previously I owned a 2005 8.1 litre V8 CHEVY ENGINED petrol 28ft Trailite RV/motorhome it was a hoot to drive but at over 250 squid to fill it up,it didnt last long (were living in it between properties)IF money wernt the issue, then bring on the "bumble bee" V8 all day long :augie :augie :augie the twin exhaust note made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, instant leaf blower when throttle was blipped, oh them were the days, Really pissed off the vw gti hotshot at the lights in Tewkesbury left him for dead :lol :lol :lol

For a car, petrol every time, I've not driven one diesel car that I liked, prefer the higher reving nature of petrol engines.
For a 4x4 I would generally say diesel, (exception is a V8 petrol Range Rover / Porsche Cayenne Turbo if someone else is paying the fuel bill, but I dont think I would off road either of those) - had a 3.5 V6 (LPG) shogun for a while - went well but never got better than 13mpg !
