got a prolem with a pc. Everytime it boots it just restarts even if I put a boot disc in.

Any ideas?

Try resetting bios and see if that helps, but like said before could be faulty ram ect.Only way to tell is remove components one by one and see which one maybe faulty

all you can do is unplug everything, including any expansion memory, if it still will not boot, then trip to the computer shop, if it does boot, then add the items removed one at a time to find out which one is bad, Rick

RE-boots

Can you get it into safe mode and use system restore by holding down F8 when you switch it on ?

There was a virus going round that did that and system restore would fix it.

cheers chaps I will give your idea's a try.

I am thinking its virus related.

Think you are right, try an internet search on another PC, if you can, and look for any info on a virus that causes a start up loop. 34 years working with PC's and never found a problem similar to that that was due to faulty ram or a dodgy motherboard, no disrespect to the techies on here. 99.9% of the time it is caused by a virus in my experience. Or you could try this as suggested by others:

* Set your first boot device in the Bios to CD-Rom. Insert your Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7 CD, save the bios settings and exit. Soon "Press any key to boot of CD" will appear on the screen, hit the space bar to continue.
* Now setup will inspect your hardware and software, it then will load various files required for the repair. Just wait and be patient, this may take a few moments.
* Soon a menu will appear (as pictured below), press enter to continue.
* Now the "End User Agreement" Press "F8" if you agree, "ESC" if you don't.
* You will now have to select the installation you wish to repair. Usually there is only one, but sometimes, there may be 2 or more (i.e. you have done a parallel install to resolve a problem), use the up/down arrow key to select the install, and then press "R" to continue.
* Setup will now examine the disk be patient, it can take a few minutes.
* Setup will go through a percentage - 1 to 100%
* A screen will soon appear. Press "F3" to continue
* Now setup will reboot system, wait 15 seconds or just press enter.
* Now it is time to see if this has solved your problems.

I had a trojan 1 year ago, tried everything wasted loads of time, in the end I took it to the tech department at PC world, they sorted it in a few days I think the price was either £20 or £30

There was no hardware fault only the virus. I didn't loose any data or settings either phewww :thumb2

You could pay a lot more at other computer stores, for them to only do a complete format and install, but can you remember where all your software is?

I had to buy a net book to keep me on line for those few days, and this gets the most use now, at home and out and about.

I had a quick look on google, seems a common enough problem so there is plenty of information and things to try. Really depends how much time you want to spend as against how much money you want to spend, and whether or not you have access to another PC/laptop in your house. It's easier if you have another pc close by. Hope you get sorted soon.

another solution is to check home insurance for " accidental damage " :augie
