Hi all,
please forgive my lack of technical terms as i try to explain my problem. Oil leak coming from the front hub/ball joint drivers side smells like gear or diff oil, any ideas?

regards Donal

Is the power steering gear box on this side as on the T2? as mine was leaking like that!!

Sounds a bit like you have an axle seal gone and the oil is coming out around the knuckle flange grease seal.

A picture of the problem would be good, if you can get one

the oil is only visible on the inside and seems to be coming out of the ball joint. i`ll get a pic today, how do i post it? Thanks

Its quite common. Its a seal thats gone. Not that expensive to have done at Nissan but I believe you can do it yourself although I havent personally done one myself. But in over four years of owning my Trol Ive had two done.

thanks for the reply, could you tell me is it ok to drive for a while until i can get it sorted,

regards Donal

It is the axle oil seal located in the end of the axle tube leaking in to the knuckle and then out past the grease seal.

It will be ok to use with the oil leak as long as you keep monitoring the oil level in the axle if you loose to much oil from the axle it will not do the axle any good and could end up costing you a lot more than just a seal.

I have sent you some info via email, on doing the seal, if you fancy a go.

many thanks dadba and toolbox, not only did ye tell me what my problem is, toolbox even posted my pic for me! what a service, again many thanks

hi donal, i had this problem with my discovery, it was recommended by a land rover techy to drain oil and fill with one shot hub grease, i got mine from. www.famousfour.co.uk

part number FF000247
One-Shot Swivel Grease Sachet - GENUINE PART
£5.40 PER SWIVEL

no more leaks, job done, hope this helps, tezzer

hi tezzer

thanks for that, has anyone tried that on a patrol, would be interested to hear your thoughts on it

Donal

i don't know on a patrol, but disco has a drain plug and filler so it's easy to do. :nenau

Am I reading this right???

Drain Oil, do you mean drain the oil from the Axle and fill it with grease????

Or do you mean the swivel joint (hub)? The joint should be filled with grease.
Yes there is a drain in the swivel joint to drain out water.
