Changed filter no problems and cleaned drain assembly up while i was at it.

However, i can't bleed the air from the system. I've pumped the primer a billion times and it just doesn't get any harder. Tried removing line between filter and injectors (left side of filter?) and repeating process but without success.

So, brand new, OEM, water-free filter fitted and now car won't start. What am i doing wrong ?

I wonder if you have a faulty primer as i've come across this before on pugs :? the only other way that might work is if you fill up the filter with derv & then refit it

fuel filter

have you tried removing the pipe then cranking it over a few times,i know its bit messy but it was the only way i could bleed my old transit as the lift pump/primer pump had shot it.

Did you fill the filter with diesel again mate ????

erm, no

i tried priming and nothing happened so I removed the injector connection from fillter, opened drain plug and primed until fuel came out of drain. re-fitted injector hose and primed again.

Maybe i should have kept priming until fuel came out of injector connection before re-attaching hose? :?

Filter

Actually mate Sweety beat me to that one in his post I notice. Nissan is doing mine along with other stuff on Satdy. Hope that helps mate :?:

Workshop manual says .....

AIR BLEEDING

Pump the priming pump to bleed air.
+ When air is bled completely, the pumping of the priming
pump suddenly becomes heavy. Stop operation at that
time.
+ If it is difficult to bleed air by the pumping of the priming
pump (the pumping of the priming pump does not
become heavy), disconnect the fuel supply hose
between the fuel filter and the injection pump. Then, perform
the operation described above, and make sure that
fuel comes out. (Use a pan, etc. so as not to spill fuel.
Do not let fuel get on engine and other parts.)

Gonna try again this evening after work.

It would help if:

a) there was more room to get at the thing and
b) I didn't have hands like shovels!

cheers

You and me both!! I drained water from the fuel filter whilst I was on holiday at Easter - still got the scars on the back of my left hand.

Best of luck

all done and humming nicely.

the priming pump must be shot but filling with diesel first worked a treat.

many thanks for your help guys. maybe one day i'll have learned enough about engines to be able to return the favour
