Hi
I have a 1998 2.8 patrol that is leaking fluid from the swivel housing on the front axle. The swivel hub is very rusty and pitted quite badly have tried to clean them up and fit new seals but started to leak again after a short while.Got a local garage to have a look who said the best solution was to replace the axle as the housings cannot be replaced.Has anybody got any ideas as to where I can get a good second hand axle or is there another solution. Any advice appreciated. thanks

IF you can get a s/h axle it'll be around 200-250 quid .
It could be that the inner oil seal is leaking that seals the half shaft. I've got two axles here that have awful rusty minging swivel hubs, but they don't leak. So I don't think there's a need to have the lovely shiny swivels you see on landies.

Yes and there's a rubber seal ring thing that's meant to keep the swivel clean ish. If the swivel is very pitted then it may not work. I don't think there should be loose oil about in there in the first place though.
