Hey all,

Newbie here

Thought i'd join up before i get my patrol to save a mis-informed decision!

I'm looking round for a lwb deisel patrol and just wondered if you would recomend the 2.8td or 4.2na and the advantages/disadvantages of each?

Also your opinion on milage? I know its all down to the kind of life its had and a whole load of luck! But i just wondered when i could expect say.... A gearbox re-build, headgasket, Any other problems i may not know about eg a common fault with bearings(engine) when approaching a certain milage.

Many thanks in advance and look forward to maybe meeting some of you in the future.

hi fella, only bought my 2.8 a month ago (1999 model) no probs asked a whole load of questions myself before buying as far as engine choice goes really nothing in it smaller means better fuel bigger means goes a bit quicker both fabulous offroad but as far as any inherit problems with the patrol none to report over any other other car you might buy second hand as far as parts and others go thanks to the internet and ebay no more expensive than your average family car !! go for it and enjoy !!

which troll

i used to work for a horticultural engineering co and we had a 4.2 lwb and a 2.8 swb.the 4.2 was used for towing a 30' trailer which would sometimes be pulling a ton plus and on the motor way you had to keep reminding yourself that the trailer was behind you as the pulling capability was exellent.the swb 2.8 managed the trailer fine but it did zig zag around sometimes.both are great work horses but off road the swb is the one to have.all down to personal choice really(and cash flow).if i didn't have 4 kids would be tempted to get a swb 2.8 but then 1 would have to walk everywhere

Aussie based but all you need to know

Hey all,

Thanks for the quick replies!

Yeah it seems a pretty tough call on what lump to go for, fuel/performance seem very closely matched :?:

I tried that site but they wont let you register and all emails just get bounced back. But it does look like a good source.
