how does a fail show itself, I ask as i feel my oil light takes too long to go out, it may be only a second or two but feels so long which watching it!

The oil light on a ZD30 always takes a few seconds to go out. This is almost certainly because the engine has a high pressure sensor. If it is only a few seconds, I think it's normal operation.

As I said, I have had the high pressure sensor fail twice.

On the first occasion, it the oil warning light came on and stayed on whilst I was driving along at about 30mph. I stopped, switched off the engine and checked the oil. I restarted the engine and the oil warning light went off and stayed off. The problem didn't recur for weeks. On each occasion when the light came on, it stayed on. More often than not, if you stopped the engine and restarted, it was extingsuihed and stayed off.

On the second occasion (I was on holiday about 500 miles from home!!!), the light did not extinguish after starting the engine. It stayed on until I stopped the engine and restarted. If the light did extinguish, it stayed off for as long as the engine ran. It then would either extinguish (or not) the next time the engine started and would stay off (or on) for as long as it was running.

Fortunately, in both cases, I was very confident that it was a sensor problem so ignored it. Nissan checked the oil pressure for me and it is absolutely fine.

When I said "The oil light on a ZD30 always takes a few seconds to go out.", I meant when starting from cold. It extinguishes virtually immediately when the engine is warm.

is there a auto version of thr patrol ...... preferably a early version rather than late .?... ( cheaper lol )

yes, im sure there is pete, but how early i dont know, i did have an old y reg 3.3 patrol manual what a beast that was, it would pull a house down given the chance lol, :doh

seen a y60 with slush box, but it may have been a petrol...drool...

on y61 can get 3.0 tdi mated to auto, Davemud has one, I love
autos, but also fear them atleast at budget level motoring.

if money was no problem a fair old part of my fleet would be 2 pedals.

1st one petrol ( dont like petrol ) , but second one looks as though i could get my wheelchair and the grandkids in , it seems they are breeding like rabbits these days :lol

hang on ... they are both petrol :doh ... dont they do a diesel auto ?

As for older Trols, check them out for rust. UK climate and salt is not kind to Nissan 4x4s as they were/are not very well protected from new. Ok if previous owner has given it a good coating of wax in the box sections

Checks sills at the rear, just in front of rear wheel arches and check front under the radiator, also the wings are prone to rust behind the plastic arch flares.

My 2.8 drives and tows like a dream:thumb2 I've done a few mods, Tuning box and 2.5" Exhaust has made a great difference.

Mines is manual box and love it:clap I like auto cars, got 2 Mercs, but can't get my head around an auto 4x4:eek:
