I have a LWB Manual 2001 Y61 which has been fault free for 6 years since I purchased it. I have had the usual 5th gear rumble which has slowly got worse over the last 12 months.. We took a day out in one day whereby I had a clatter from the engine bay which was followed shortly after by a clutch failure.. OK so now the bad news.. the clatter was the Dual Mass Flywheel passing over to the other side (The clutch plates are fine) (£1000 plus the clutch) The gearbox 5th gear is very worn on the spline of the mainshaft.. total comes to £500. The mainshaft is £300 on its own so does anyone know if the mainshaft needs replacing or just the O/D maingear.
It is close thing between carrying on with my box or looking for secondhand parts.. lastly post 2002 the gearbox was uprated.. does anyone know if there are any issues with fitting a later type on to the 2001 model..
