ive searched previous postings on this but cant find what im looking for!!
my passenger electric window stopped working a few months ago and after constant nagging by the wife who is normally the passenger i thought id best have a look at it!!
ive taken off the door card and the covering... what should i be looking for or what should i be testing, its just a mass of connectors and wiring!!
help please!! cant afford to put it into a garage for repair!!

hi I had that problem ( The window not my wife ) Assuming other windows work .....found the switch in the central consul had broken in half , probably damaged by someone when clutch changed suggest you start here but Worth doing easy bits first is fuse ok ,relay can you feel it operate etc ..........then see if you have power at switch . Aso the main switch on the consul controls the three windows but the drivers works independantly hope this helps regards slim jim

when i press the switch to put the window down there is a clunk from the motor in the door, could this point to the motor being faulty??

I assume you have checked that all the bolts are tight that fix the motor and the mechanism.
Does the window go up evenly, or does it rock front to back as if the slides need adjusting.
I would have thought that the window motors were reliable enough, especially the passenger side.
Are you aware of any body/door damage in the vehicle's history that might have caused the mechanism to be out of alignment, thus putting a strain on the motor?
As with all electrical equipment, check the connectors and ensure that the earth is good.
It could be that the motor/mechanism is jammed if the window doesn't move. An option is to slacken the motor and briefly try it.
Do check the switch(es) on the centre console, as the contacts might not have opened or closed properly.
Hope this helps,
regards, Rustic

the window is up straight but doesnt move up or down at all and hasnt done for a few months.
the terranos been in the family from new and hasnt been involved in any accidents.
ive checked the connectors but theres quite a few and i dont even know which ones relate to the window and which relate to the central locking, mirrors and speakers etc....

Take the door panel off again and have another look and push the window button while looking.

If the motor is making a clank sound then you have power to the motor.

The motor is not pulling the window down then it's in the mechanism area.
Something is jammed or rusted in the hinges that operate from the motor to the window or the window is become separated from the drive unit.
try that and see what you find

thanks rossco, i'll wait till the rain goes off (probably sometime next year)and go out and try that, ive left the door card off for now anyway.

You could give some assistance to the motor by putting a hand each side of the window (door open first) and push down when someone presses the open window button. Wear gloves for better grip.

Might help a little. The glass could be stuck in the rubber, some silicon oil may help, but keep it away from the windscreen.

replaced the motor in it today as it was gubbed. however when i dismantled the fixings the wire coil and insert burst open and all the wire cable came loose... anyone know how to tension it back up? ive spent all day trying to reassemble the wheel and wire??

went to a garage to see what was needed today... i require a whole new window mechanism. getting quoted about £70 up from scrappies, still to get a quote for a brand new one yet. Does anyone know how easy they are to fit or am i best going through a garage?
