Got an 03 Patrol and while discussing mounting GPS it got me wondering about the safety aspect of mounting anything in front of an airbag ?
My passenger side dash has 2 panels displaying the SRS logo . Are these where the bag deploys from when it goes off ?
I'm pretty sure it would be a bad idea to fit anything between these and a passenger ! :augie

Youre spot on, nothing between the air bag and the body its going to hit. interesting question that about the panels,

I dont know patrols at all but having just looked at the Terrano & the Yaris we have , and thinking back over the years to deployed air bags i've seen, I reckon its fair to say yes the logo'd panel will be the bit that pops out :D

if it has 2 panels could it have 2 air bags?
perhaps upper bidy and leg protection?

On the other hand i took the dash out of a newish transit van the other day sorting wiring out, and behind the panel where i expected to find the air bag there was nothing but a metal cross member to support the dash, maybe the air bag is reserved for a better model?

so maybe one or the other of your panels had no bag behind it?

just some thing to think about, i dont actualy know what im talking about ;)

Just had another look and I think the bag deploys from the top of the dash :nenau

the top panel is where the airbag deploys from if you take out the glovebox and look up you can see the airbag bits the lower panel is just a blank

Heres hoping you never have to find out though
