rusty colour...needs changing then, but i wouldnt worry too much could have been orange coolant originally, or just dirty water lol think mines similar. but thats good, means pumps working, so we can focus on a leak, or thermostat. i still think thermostat. i suppose best test is to remove it when cold, and put into a jar filled with hot water, if it opens, all ok, if its already open, there you its broke, if it stays closed, its broke.

Just take ya thermostate out & try it but i'd still say its ya water pump. :thumbs

Also flush ya system out by putting a garden hose to 1 of ya heater matrix hose :thumbs

Hi every one, just spoke to Pete, first off the water colour should be pinky clear that is the summer/winter coolant corrosion proofer we put in, I think the viscous fan has or is failing, he was working the engine hard up hill at not to great a speed so air flow low, probably got hot enough to discharge some coolant, hence the top up amount, and since it has been behaving OK time will tell, Rick

today i gave sally a bit of a thrashing around bradford , up some long hills and in traffic jams too ..... the needle didnt go above halfway even when i was in a traffic jam for over 10 mins with the engine on idle :thumb2 ... in fact some times it was only showing a quarter on the temp gauge :thumb2

sounds ok, might have been a air lock then perhaps?

since i topped up the rad , sally is running fine , rick explained what he thought had happened and im a bit more confident driving sally , its taken a long time to get my confidence back after the major issues , but im really happy with the car now .

just one thing bothers me , since topping up the rad , sally seems to be running very cold .... ie the needle hardly ever gets to half way now , and sometimes doesnt even go above a quarter ....... one question .... can it run too cold ? .... or is it the thermostat stuck open ? .

just feel the top of the rad after a while, see if its warm / hot.

After replacing my Rad, Water Pump & Thermostat my temperature rarely goes over the 1/4 mark :thumbs
So I'd say normal & nothing to worry about :thumbs

mine JUST gets to half.

towing caravan on hot days as well...

Stop worrying :augie You'll go grey :lol

i agree with the others mate, temp sounds right to me :thumb2
