Hi all. Newbie here !
Just bought a 1996 2.7Ti LWB Maverick.
All seems good with it Except it seems to have an overheating problem.
Under steady gentle driving the temp gauge climbs to approx halfway. And a little more right foot and the gauge climbs further to about 3/4's. Driving harder still ( ie climbing a hill on motorway ) the gauge will continue to climb and has briefly entered the red, until i noticed what was going on and so backed off !
First thought was thermostat, so i changed it for a 60deg unit. (Iknow that's far too low but it's all i had to hand and wanted to prove/disprove it)
However, this has made little or no difference.
Upon examining under the bonnet with the engine warm , i notice that both the top and bottom hoses from the engine are virtually the same temperature as the engine, but the majority of the radiator is stone cold !
also notice a faint rattling noise from the water pump area which dssapears when the radiator cap is loosened off to relieve pressure, but returns as soon as pressure is regained.
There is no 'mayonaisse' in the rocker cover and neither oil or water levels change, so i thik it's safe to rule out headgasket.
I'm begining to think that something daft like the impellor has fell off/come loose on the water pump shaft.
Anyone else had any experiance of this problem or can shed some light/offer suggetions on the matter ?
Cheers,
Paul
