after leaving pauls last night,,,, it didnt take long to get warm again. i had hoped to change the thermostat over the weekend. but paul worked me like a dog:augie:lol so i didnt have time
i was all nat nav'd up and ready to pop in at zippys on the way home, but she got hot

i pulled into membury services and poped the thermostat out. while i was working on my truck some old lady came over saying her hilman imp was overheating . naturally with my kind nature i went over and fixed it for her .

then i gently took it th leigh delamar services and she was still frying

with this in mind i had to modify the front grill of the truck at the services. seems the fitting of a winch has drasticly reduced air flow into the rad.

so had to smash the extreme grill im now looking for parts to modify the front.

upon test drive with no grill. she runs really cold. and much smoother/faster

also going to heat sheild the intercooler and fan it too. unless i can find a really big one in the breakers

you fit a winch, and just have a few holes in the front grill.

and it over heats..

need more are through the grill,

what about cuiiting the grill more.. say with the cut out extreme 4x4 in ?

zippy

that was one of the original plans zipps.... but need lots more air now

will the nissan grill fit in the mav . i know the lights dont

i was thinking of modding a nissan one with big air.

off to breakers today to play

i was thinking of putting "ZIPPY" with LED lights within the grill.

but will have to rethink as was could to fix in perspex. this would drop the air a lot too!

Three things Ex.

1. Hard work my ass!!!

2. Whatever we like to think, the manufacturers often made things the way they did for a good reason....:) The Vicious fan is another good example. But wonder why you only just have the problem?

3. Not sure how you heat shield the i/c effectively without impeding airflow through it.... wrap the top of the engine in several layers of bacofoil maybe? :augie then you can syphon off some of the SVO and knock up the odd buger as you drive...

mobile burger van for club meets.. great idea!

yeah the heat sheild could be a problem, ititially i had thought fireproof fibre board but as you say restrict ait flow...
could use foil cover over rocker cover etc but then that will trap heat bellow

from what i experianced last night its not viable to fit big one front mounted cos the extra heat caused by blocking the rad will take away and cooling bonus from front mounting intercooler

so that leaves a couple of options

big air in the grill (will do a pic later)
vent the bonnet to allow extra air flow out of bonnet (cossy style)
bigger scoop on the intercooler in bonnet
heat sheild intercooler

i thinks you need more air through the grill, or maybe ducked from lower down..

Suggestions.

1. Just do a sexy wire mesh grille of some sort like this one I was going to stick on my beemer.

I've got some chicken wire in the shed if you need it :)

2. Two vents at the rear end of the bonnet might be a good idea? Wouldn't interfere with the i/c scoop ....but remember you'd need to ensure it was a negative pressure area, (i) because that would help to suck the air out, because (ii) remember the airs easiest exit is otherwise down out the bottom of the engine bay....huge open space if you think about it, so not sure the bonnet scoop would make a difference potentially....but its not going to break anything so go for it I'd say. Side vents in the wing might be an option but you'd have to cut through two skins wouldn't you....and more places for water to gush in :augie

3. Ideal arrangement IMHO might be a separate permanent cooling system for the i/c. Blag a little rad from somewhere, plenty of water piping, small electric pump, copper piping or somesuch wrapped around the i/c in some way, switchable so you only use it when you need it....etc.. There might not be the room for it, but you won't know til you try! Only issue I can think of is you don't want it having a positive heating effect as opposed to cooling...wonder how easy it would be to fit temp sensor to i/c body so you can measure the before and after????? (Theres that scrap 10mm copper pipe in Culham that we ripped out of the heating system remember? - easy to shape, but you'd need to ensure close contact with the i/c for any cooling effect....).

4. Or a specific, channelled directed air supply from the grille or other area directed under the bonnet straight on to the i/c?

just been looking in the bonnet.... i have a cunning plan. lots of work but cheep and its got to work or do something

how about lift the intercooler 1 inch there is room just, place a turkey tray type of thing underneath it and one above painted white of course. so now you have a sealed box for the intercooler ,
ram air in from the front grill to under intercooler and hot air blown out the top of bonnet

you could fan the inlet too if you wanted, or air con the inlet. that would give you colder intercooler

Providing you can isolate or channel it, otherwise its going to arrive hot from the engine heat....still think the manufacturers idea is the simplest, so leave the scoop working and think about ADDITIONAL cooling.

more like let the air in through the grill...

now the winch stop the air going up into the engin bay

lights are diferent t2 fogs in middle. mav top

not sure about size etc, but i woulnt buy some to try just in case

nearlly sorted the grill
