Following my previous thread on the purchase of my SWB 60 Trol I have now started remedial work regarding getting it roadworthy.
Firstly, I had to overcome a starter problem, sometimes it would spin and start, sometimes just click so I removed it and took it to bits, it was full of dried mud which was not surprising considering it had been used a pay and play toy.
Some pics.

anyway a couple of days and £180 later

Top bolt tightening using a 3' extension.

Anyway it spins and starts perfectly.
Greased the front prop while it was off

And the rear while it was on.

Next things to sort out are a couple of lights.

I could do with one of each of these, an offside front and a nearside rear if anyone can help out, I would be happy to purchase.

Thats about it till tomorrow

What year etc is this, I have a few sets about but only fit up to 1994. 94' on is a different size.

I gave up replacing my indicators. Smashed them nearly every time I went out. Fitted LEDs instead.

Hi yes it's a 94, I'll PM you for details.

Well this freezing morning back out to the Trol.
1st job I think is to remove the tow bar I don't need and think about building a bumper for the rear in the absence of an original one.

Next job along the line are the weeping swivel seals. one , the offside is worse than the nearside but I guess it's best to do both then they are out of the way.
Offside

nearside.

What I need help with is where to get parts from. 18 years of Landcruiser ownership means I know where to get any part from but with Nissan I am totally green.
Are these parts main agent, specialist, or sort it out yourself jobbies?

Any help appreciated.

Hi Andy L, keep up with the photo's we need another 'rebuild' thread!! :D:thumb2

When I did the work on my Patrol I found some difficult to get my hands on, but a lot of them are still available from the dealer. Mind you, they charge ridiculous prices. (for example an oil cooler for my car, dealer around £700. bought one of the internet and made a frame myself for around £200)

Not sure if the Mods allow me to post links to the various places to get parts. I will copy them and if the Mods remove them then send me a PM and I will sent them to you.

In addition, have a look at breakers etc.

Hope it helps.

Right, back to the Trol and the remedial work to get it as I want it.
When I first got it I thought" off roader play truck" but having had a good look at it I think it has potential to be a good road truck as well. Its only done 86k miles and the bodywork id pretty straight so I think it deserves a bit of resurrection.
Having been used as an off roader the Chassis is full of dried mud but thats a job for later. All front axles suffer in the swivel/wheel bearing dept if continuously subjected to deep water so I thought I would start on the front axle first after I had removed the towbar.

out with the impact wrench.

Some were very tight!! not for long.

Thats better.

Drained the front axle while it was in the air.

Not looking its best

Got the Trol in the "Man Cave".

Put the batteries on Accumate to help bring them back, it had been stood 18 months but tested with a HD tester they seem pretty good.

Once jacked up and on stands, wheels off and let battle commence. Bearing in mind I have never done one of these before but plenty of Landcruisers I had an Idea of what to expect.

F/W hub off

Ready for the hub to come off

Looks good,not!!

backing plate off

Half shaft out, what a mess!!

full of mud and sand.

Track rod off

I think that the inner seal has seen better days!

All in bits

Other side the same but without the oil as the seal was better condition

The balls look badly pitted but I will attempt to re furbish them the best I can

The CV's are in good condition remarkably although the shafts are scored where the seals are in contact. I am going to get some "Speedy Sleeves" to overcome that problem

Well apart from cleaning the parts up with parrafin then the steam cleaner thats about it.
The parts I need are:-
Wheel bearings.
Swivel bearings
Inner axle shaft seals
Inner wheel bearing seals.

I will strip the brake callipers to check them'.

Just a quick Q, are the genuine inner axle seals the best to have? the reason I ask is that is the case with Cruisers.

Back soon

Andy

Blimey some of that is mighty messy!

10/10 for effort and pictures. If there's anything we love its a good thread of strip n rebuild!

The trol is looking mean!

i had to do all of that once on our old patrol once those swivel seals have gone it all fills up with crap, good effort there i dont think it matters if there geniune seals or not

You can refurb the ball bit with liquid metal filler stuff. Then sand it back smooooth :sly
That's exactly the job I'm doing on my axles at the mo. :thumbs
Good luck

WOW this thread makes me feel better about the underside of my Patrol. Your doing a great job and that does look a beast of a Patrol mate:thumb2.
The swivels on mine are pitted to fooook so need to look at sorting them.

Been shopping today.

Wheel bearings, grease, Speedi Sleeves For the stub axles. Ran a blank on the Speedi sleeves for the drive shafts and the inner axle oil seals. one thing I did notice though is that the swivel bearings are the same as a Landcruiser 80 series and I had some of those in already. Also I need some of the seals which fit the rear of the swivels ( which act as a wiper on the axle housing).

If anyone can give me the part no's for the inner seals and the wipers I would appreciate it as the local Nissan main dealer parts dept couldn't even identify the parts I needed.

Are you after the part number for the front hub oil seals?

They are good but not cheap, for the stub axles they were £40 each and will still need machining to size when fitted. I've yet to overcome the grooved driveshaft problem but I will.
